How To Maintain a Battery Powered Quartz Wall Clock
There are clocks that are easy to maintain.A quartz clock is the most common on the market. The time is kept by using a small crystal and electrical currents. When the clock stops working, you usually only need to replace the battery. If the clock gives you problems even though it has a new battery, you should check to make sure the hands don't hit any other parts. It is cheaper to replace the clock movement than it is to repair it.
Step 1: You can open the battery compartment.
There is a battery compartment on the back of the clock. The movement is a small black box.To remove the clip, use a screwdriver.
Step 2: The old battery should be removed.
To get the end of the battery, use your fingers. It should be released from the compartment.Don't use the battery.
Step 3: The terminals need to be cleaned.
The battery terminals need to be cleaned. The q-tip or cotton ball can be used to clean the terminals.
Step 4: The terminals should be dry.
Dry the terminals with a clean cloth or paper towel. When a new battery is put in, it is important that the terminals are dry.Let the terminal air dry if you don't have a dry cloth.
Step 5: The new battery needs to be inserted.
Determine what type of battery the clock requires by reading the instructions in the battery terminal. The positive and negative ends of the battery should be lined up.
Step 6: The clock hands should be looked at intact.
As time goes by, watch the clock tick.Determine if the clock's hands need to be adjusted. The clock's hands should not move.If the clock's hands catch on each other, they need to be adjusted.
Step 7: The faceplate should be removed.
If you want to make any changes to the hands, first remove the clock's faceplate. The faceplate should come off.If the clock doesn't have a faceplate, this step is not necessary.
Step 8: Make sure the clock hands don't touch each other.
bend the clock hands away from each other if they do touch.Be careful not to bend them too far.Don't touch them when they pass each other, just bend them enough.
Step 9: Take off the cover.
If your clock has a face, gently remove it.The clock can be popped off of it's rim.If your clock doesn't have a faceplate, this step is not necessary.
Step 10: Lift up the other hand.
The second hand should be removed gently.Don't bend or damage the hand when removing it from the clock's face.
Step 11: Take the minute hand away.
The minute hand will be removed next. You will want to be careful with this hand.
Step 12: The hour hand needs to be removed.
The hour hand should be removed. When you remove the clock from its face, be careful not to damage the hand.
Step 13: The movement needs to be pulled out.
There is a square box on the back of the clock.Remove it from the clock. As you remove the old movement from the clock, be careful not to damage it.
Step 14: The new movement needs to be inserted.
The old movement should be put in the new one.As you insert the movement into the hole in the face of the clock, be careful not to damage it.
Step 15: The hands should be replaced.
Start with the hour hand, then the minute hand and finally the second hand.Don't bend the hands while replacing them on the clock. If the hands touch, move them away from each other.
Step 16: The faceplate needs to be put back on.
You should put the faceplate back on once you have assembled all the pieces of the clock. The edge of the clock should have the faceplate on it.
