It's natural to want to love your pet when you own a bearded dragon. If you take care of your dragon, he can have feelings for you.Learn how to care for him.By showing your love, you can provide a good and safe home for your pet.
Step 1: A high quality vivarium is available for purchase.
There is a wooden tank with a glass front. The dragon can hurt his nose with a tight lid and smooth sides. It will be easy to clean the vivarium.Vivariums should be waterproof. You should caulk the joints as well. Before you put your dragon in his home, be sure to let the vivarium dry for a week.Make sure your dragon has enough room to run, climb, and sit.A mixture of water and bleach should be used to clean your pet's habitat. He doesn't eat vegetables for four hours.Remove insects at the end of the day.
Step 2: You can use an aquarium.
You can buy an aquarium for your dragon.Baby dragons can live in a 10–15 gallon aquarium, while adults need a larger 55-60 gallon space. It is difficult to regulate the temperature in an aquarium.
Step 3: Provide a heat source.
The heat in wooden vivariums is better than it is in glass or metal. The aim is to provide a less warm area and a warmer section. The vivarium should be no larger than 24 inches by 48 inches. One air vent is minimally one per square foot. The vent should be on the upper part of the wall. For additional instructions on how to set up your pet's habitat, see Care for Bearded Dragons. You can buy a vivarium or make your own using a kit.
Step 4: A good surface to install.
The material that fills the bottom of the vivarium is called a Substrate.Your pet will dig.If you want your dragon to feel at home, look for a substrate that looks natural. It should be absorbent.Try to find something that is non-toxic and safe for your dragon to eat.You can use smooth newspapers, indoor or outdoor carpet, brown paper, AstroTurf.
Step 5: Appropriate furniture should be provided.
You should include branches for climbing. You can find a reptile hammock at pet stores.Atile hide is an enclosed area in which your dragon can hide. This space will be used by your dragon for long periods of sleep. There is a "basking platform" in the habitat. The basking light source can be anywhere from six to eight inches in diameter.A dragon can warm himself. If you want your dragon to not eat the wood, be sure to remove the bark from the natural wood branches. Before use, clean all branches.
Step 6: Know how to do good things.
Dragons like being held.Wait three to four days after the dragon arrives to start holding him. Before and after handling a pet, wash your hands.Hold him for short periods multiple times a day.It helps build trust slowly.Try to have a quiet setting when holding your dragon.Babies, young children, women who are or might be pregnant, the elderly, or people with weakened immune systems should be careful about touching the dragon. There can be infections of Salmonella. If you or your child are a member of one of these populations, you should consult a doctor. For more information, see Hold a Bearded Dragon.
Step 7: Pick up the dragon.
Put your dragon under his body in a scooping motion. His legs and tail should be supported.Don't pull your dragon by his tail.It can come off.
Step 8: It's time to calm your dragon.
From the beginning, it is important to tame your dragon. If your dragon is aggressive, hold him tightly with both of your hands and pet him.Try to hold him until he calms himself by releasing him for a short time.It can take a long time to train your dragon to be calm and hold it.
Step 9: Feed your dragon with food.
One way to bond with your dragon is to give him food. You should do this occasionally, but not so often that your dragon becomes dependent on you.You should give your dragon his food in a bowl most of the time because dragons hunt for it.The food should be placed on the tip of your fingers. The dragon will take the food from you.Animals like crickets, waxworms, and mealworms are available for purchase at pet shops.Squash, endive, and turnip greens are safe vegetables. There are apples, strawberries, and melons that dragons can eat.Don't feed your pet any vegetables, fruits, or insects.A regular feeding plan is necessary. If you put the food in your dragon's home, he will anticipate feeding time.He will associate a positive experience with you.Your adults should be fed once per day or every second day. There is a mostly live food diet for juvenile dragons.Beardies can transition to a vegetarian diet as they get older.Your dragon might think your fingers are food. It's a good idea to be careful when feeding him.
Step 10: Bathe your dragon.
You can help your lizard stay hydrated by giving him a bath. The dragons absorb water.dragons don't like to drink from a water bowl.To bathe your dragon, fill a sink, bathtub, or other clean container with warm water. It is possible that your dragon will enjoy this activity and associate pleasure with you. After use, be sure to clean the container thoroughly.Every second day, mist your pet with water. This will help keep your lizard hydrated. You can bathe your pet every day, but try to bathe him every four to eight days.
Step 11: Aim for a stress-free environment.
If you want your dragon to be happy, you need to reduce his stress levels.High stress can lead to aggression.Don't let the noise levels in your house go up when your dragon sleeps. This could be a sign that your dragon wants to be alone. If there is a pressing need, try to respond appropriately to your dragon's behavior. It is okay to let your dragon go outside. You should keep him out of the kitchen or other rooms where you prepare food.
Step 12: Take your dragon to the vet.
Bearded dragons should have yearly check-ups.If you notice that your bearded dragon is acting differently than usual, schedule an appointment with the vet.dragons face mite issues, they suck the reptile's blood.Only a vet can determine if your pet is sick.
