WindowsVista is no longer supported by iTunes.If you want to use an older version, you'll need a special installer.You will be able to connect to the devices with this version of iTunes.The regular download from the website won't work.If you're having problems, you may need to remove some of the components.
Step 1: As an administrator you can log in.
An administrator account is needed.If you only have one account on your computer, it's an administrator account.
Step 2: Determine if you're using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
You'll be able to download a special version of Vista since it's not supported by iTunes.You need to know if your copy of Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit in order to get the correct one.Click on "Computer" to open the Start menu.You can also use Win+Pause.There is a "System type" entry.
Step 3: The correct version ofiTunes can be downloaded.
If you're using 32-bit or 64-bit, you should download the correct installation from Apple.
Step 4: You have to run the installer after you download it.
The installation that you just downloaded needs to be run.You can usually find it in your Downloads folder.You should confirm that you want to run a downloaded program.
Step 5: Follow the instructions to install the program.
During installation, you may be prompted by User Account Control several times.
Step 6: You have to uninstall all the components.
There are components that were installed if the installation failed.Before you try installing again, you'll want to remove all of these.This won't affect your purchases.To uninstall a program, open the Control Panel and select "Programs and Features".If you install any of the programs, remove them.
Step 7: Make sure that Windows is current.
You may not be able to install iTunes if Windows is not up to date.Click the Start menu and type "windows update" to check for and install any available updates.From the list of results, select Windows Update.Click the "Check for updates" button if you don't see anything.You will need to be connected to the internet.If you want to install any updates, click "Install updates"If Windows hasn't been updated recently, this may take a while.
Step 8: It's a good idea to remove your antivirus software.
It's possible that your software is reporting the files as malicious.Problems with the installation can be caused by this.While installing, disabling your antivirus.You can do this by right-clicking on the icon in the System Tray and selecting "Disable."
Step 9: Make sure you have the correct installation.
You need to use one of the installers listed in the first section.The latest installation from iTunes.com won't work with Vista.
Step 10: Click on the "Run as Administrator" option.
This will make sure that you run the installer as an admin.If you are an administrator, do this.
