How To Highlight Every Other Row on Google Sheets on PC or Mac

You can use a custom formula to highlight all the even or odd-numbered cells in a spreadsheet with a color fill using a desktop internet browser.

Step 1: Go to the internet browser and open the sheets.

Hit Return on your keyboard if you want to enter sheets.google.com.

Step 2: Click the file you want to modify.

You can find the file you want to highlight in the saved spreadsheet files.

Step 3: You can click on the format tab.

The tabs bar below the file name is where this button is located.A drop-down menu will open.

Step 4: There is a format menu.

The formatting panel is on the right side of the spreadsheet.

Step 5: Under the heading, click the text field.

There is a field at the top of the panel.You will be able to select the area you want to highlight.

Step 6: The area you want to change can be found on the spreadsheet.

Drag your mouse to select the area you want to modify.A new window titled "What data?" is displayed when you click a cell.There will be a pop-up.In the pop-up window, you can see your cell range.

Step 7: In the pop-up, click OK.

Your range selection will be confirmed by this.

Step 8: The "Format cells if" heading can be found under the drop-down menu.

The option is in the middle of the panel.There are a number of available formatting conditions.

Step 9: The custom formula is on the menu.

You can use this to type in a custom formula.

Step 10: The value or formula field can be found in the formatting panel.

This is where you can type in your formula.

Step 11: The value or formula field can be entered.

The selected cell range will be highlighted with this formula.If the formula highlights the wrong rows, try a different one.This will show the odd-numbered rows in the selected range.The row numbers can be found on the left-hand side of the spreadsheet.

Step 12: The "Formatting style" heading can be found under the color menu.

The drop-down menu is green.You can choose a different highlight color when you open a pop-up window.

Step 13: In the pop-up window, choose a highlight color.

Clicking a highlight color will apply it to your spreadsheet.

Step 14: Click the blue Done button to complete the task.

There is a button at the bottom of the panel.Your new formula will be saved.You can't save your changes to the spreadsheet file with this button.Save all the changes before you quit.
