If you want to preserve a large amount of herbs before they go bad, look no further than your ice cube tray. You can freeze herbs in olive oil and make a starter in a cube.
Step 1: To find the heartiest specimen, pick through the herb crop.
Fresh herbs need to be removed.
Step 2: Dust and debris can be removed from herbs.
Depending on the type of herb, either wash thoroughly or remove debris using a wet paper towel.Allow the herbs to dry completely before freezing.
Step 3: Pair of herbs.
If you want to combine certain herbs to achieve a specific type of flavor, you have to decide if you will freeze a single herb in each ice cube tray.
Step 4: Remove the herbs from the ice cube tray compartment.
Either chop or cut the herb. There should be no pieces sticking out of the oil cube.
Step 5: Put herbs in the ice cube tray.
Take 1/3 of the way to the top with your herbs.
Step 6: Each compartment of the ice cube tray should have olive oil added to it.
Don't overfill or spill, fill almost to the top.
Step 7: Place the tray in the freezer.
If you are creating multiples, stack the trays.
Step 8: You can freeze for several days.
Don't leave trays in the freezer for too long as other food may mix with the cubes, compromising the taste.
Step 9: Remove trays from the freezer.
The cubes should be released in a clean plate or surface.
Step 10: The cubes should be placed in a plastic freezer bag.
The date and contents of each cube should be clearly marked on each bag.
Step 11: The well-sealed bags should be returned to the freezer.
