Some of the most popular peppers in the world are jalapenos. The process is easy if you want to enjoy jalapenos. To grow them from scratch, you have to prepare the seeds indoors. You can buy seeds from a nursery at the beginning of the growing season.Rake and compost when the weather warms. You can transport your plants to this spot and let them grow for a few months.Pick the ripe peppers and enjoy them.
Step 1: Before the final frost, start growing the seeds indoors.
When the weather warms up, the seeds will be ready to be replanted outside. The final frost may be anywhere from March to May.When the final frost is expected in your area, start seeds at least six weeks before that to give you enough time to grow. You will probably have to start planting around February. One of the options for growing jalapenos is starting the seeds indoors. You could buy plants from a nursery and transplant them into your soil. The weather gets warm before the prep work is done.
Step 2: Small cups or pots can be filled with starter soil.
If you want the roots to not get tangled up, plant each seed in its own cup.The pots should be filled with starter potting soil.Pack the soil gently.Pods are a good choice to start the seeds in.The soil has a pH of 6.0-6.8.Acidify the soil if it is above this level by testing it.Each mature plant will produce at least 30 peppers per season. For how many you should plant, use this as a judge.
Step 3: The seeds need to be planted under 4 in the soil.
Drop the seed into the small section of soil in the center of the pot.It should be covered with a light layer of soil. You should only plant one seed in each container.Seed packs can be ordered online or from a nursery. You can get fresh seeds from a fully-grown red jalapeno. This produces fertile seeds.Remove the seeds from them.Wear gloves while cutting jalapenos. Before touching your face, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Step 4: The pots should be placed in a sunny spot.
The jalapenos need sun and warmth. They should be placed near a sunny window. If you want your seeds to get more sunlight, move them to different windows throughout the day.The soil needs to be warm enough for the seeds to grow if you keep your indoor temperature over 65 F.
Step 5: The soil should be kept moist with regular watering.
Moderate to high watering is what jalapenos need to thrive. As soon as you plant the seeds, use a spray bottle to wet the soil.Keep the soil moist with regular watering.Don't soak the soil. You are using too much water if the water pools at the top.Don't drown the plant by pouring some out.
Step 6: When the weather is warm, transplant the plants outside.
The plants need at least 6 weeks to mature. They are ready to move outside and grow more.Wait until the temperature is consistently above 60 F.This will be early spring in most cases.
Step 7: Plants can be planted outside if the weather is above 60 F.
The soil temperature needs to be at least 60 F.Wait until the final frost has passed and the temperature stays above 60 F.If you planted your seeds inside, the seeds should have sprouted small plants after a few weeks.By the time you are ready to transport them, they will be 6 inches tall.If you bought transplants, plant them when the weather warms up.
Step 8: There is a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight a day.
The sunniest part of your property is where the jalapenos like a lot of sunlight. If you don't know which spot is best, monitor your yard for a few days and see which spots get the most sunlight.Pick this spot for your plants.
Step 9: The compost should be 8–10 inches deep.
When choosing a planting site, make sure the soil is prepared for peppers. The top of the soil should be dug up with a metal rake.Compost or similar organic material can be poured into the soil.To evenly mix the soil and compost, use the rake. You can use a compost pile for this job.Peat moss is better if you don't have a compost pile.
Step 10: The rows of holes are 3 feet apart.
There needs to be enough air between them to prevent mold growth. If you are planting multiple seedlings, arrange them in rows. The holes are 10 cm deep and 20 cm apart.Move over 3 feet from the previous row to dig more holes when you start a new row.Don't worry about making perfect rows if you're only planting a few seedlings.Make sure the plants are far apart so they don't grow into each other.
Step 11: Leave the roots and soil intact by removing the plants from the pot.
You should gather the seedlings to transplant once you have prepared the site.Pull each one out of the pot to keep its roots intact.Pull the stem and roots from one piece if you have to.If you can't get the plants out on your own, use a small shovel and work around where the soil meets the pot.Pull the soil out.You should transplant the plant if you damage it.Plants can recover with proper care.
Step 12: Pack the soil around the plant that was placed in the transplant hole.
Place the seedling into a hole with the roots facing down.Pack the soil around the plant so it sits securely. You should do this for each one of them. The leaves or stem of the plant should not be buried. To cover the roots, only pack soil around its base.If the holes are too deep and the whole plant is covered, then fill them with some soil. The leaves and stem should be above the ground.
Step 13: Spread mulch to keep water out of the soil.
Spread the mulch with a rake.Continue until there is an even, 1 inch layer around all the plants. It is helpful to control weeds and make sure your plants have enough water.Depending on how many peppers you planted, you may need multiple bags of mulch.
Step 14: It's a good idea to use aFertilizer with high levels ofPotassium andPhosphate.
The plants can produce as many peppers as they want.If you go to a garden center, you can find a high level of afertilizer. As the product tells you to, apply it.If you follow the directions on the product you use, you can apply it once a week. You will not get as many peppers if you use high nitrogen fertilization.
Step 15: The soil should be moist with daily watering.
Don't let the soil dry out because jalapenos require consistent watering.Make sure the soil is moist and that it has some water in it.Most climates require you to water the plants every day.The water should be at the base of the plants.mold growth can be caused by the build up of moist leaves.Let your plants know if they need water.Plants need more water if the soil is moist. You should increase the amount of water you use.
Step 16: The peppers are 3 inches long.
The peppers should mature to the point that you can pick them.Pick the green peppers that are 3 inches long from your plants. If you want to twist them off, grab them by the stem.Enjoy them in your cooking. If you want the peppers to be extra spicy or want to harvest seeds for next year, you should wait until the seeds turn completely red.
