It doesn't look as luxurious when a silk item is wrinkled.Silk is a delicate fabric and ironing it on a high heat setting is not an option. It's helpful to get the item damp or steam. You can dry the item quickly or slowly if you need it soon.
Step 1: The silk should be misted with water.
After filling a spray bottle with water, spray the silk.If you don't have a spray bottle, soak the item in a tub of water and squeeze out the excess water. If you want to wash your silk item, place it in your washing machine on the delicate cycle.Proceed with ironing the item if you follow any other instructions on the label.
Step 2: Turn the silk item inside out with your iron.
Put your iron in the lowest setting. If you want to protect the outside of the item from damage, turn it inside. If the item is a button-down shirt, unbutton it.Some irons have delicate settings. You should check to see if your iron has a special setting.
Step 3: The ironing board has silk on it.
If you can, smooth it out and make sure the item is on the ironing board. The silk item should be protected from the iron with a thin towel, cloth, or t-shirt.If you are ironing a shirt that you can't unbutton, you should slip the bottom of the shirt over the ironing board so that the fabric is on the other side.
Step 4: Use the lowest setting to iron the silk.
The iron should be moved slowly over the towel to smooth out the silk.Keep moving the iron over the towel until you have covered the entire board.Don't rest the iron on any single area for more than 5 seconds. If you don't have an iron, hang your silk item outside on a sunny day.The heat from the sun will cause the item to dry out.
Step 5: If you want to iron a different area, lift the towel and shift the fabric.
Lift up the towel and move a new section of silk fabric onto the ironing board after you have fully covered one side of the item.Put the towel back on the fabric and iron it.You should iron the entire garment when you repeat this.
Step 6: Hang the item up to dry.
Place the silk item on a drying rack, hang it from a hanger, or put it in your closet. If you want to speed up the drying process, hang it up outside on a sunny day. When it is completely dry, the item is ready to wear. After the item is dry, you can either repeat the process or try another method to remove the wrinkled silk.
Step 7: You can hang the silk item in your bathroom.
Hang your silk item. You can hang it on the back of the bathroom door or on a towel rack.If you plan to use steam from the shower, you should do this before your shower. The silk item should not be pressed against the door or wall so that the steam from the shower can circulate around it.If you live in a hot, humid climate, you could hang the silk item outside in the morning and leave it outside for a few hours or all day.You should be able to work out the wrinkling in your item with the help of the air and heat.
Step 8: You can take a shower or run the shower on hot.
Keep the steam in the bathroom by closing the door and windows.Take a shower as usual. If you don't want to shower, turn on the water and let it run for about 3 to 5 minutes, or as long as it takes to fill up the bathroom with steam.Don't turn on the fan either! The steam will be sucked out of the bathroom.
Step 9: Transfer the silk item to a closet.
Take the item to a closet or hook outside of the bathroom after you finish showering. It should be dry overnight or until it is no longer damp. The steam will add weight to the item and it will smooth out the wrinkling as it dries. If the item still looks wrinkled after steaming, you may need to use a handheld steamer or try a different option.
Step 10: Use a handheld steamer.
You can use a handheld steamer to get the remaining wrinkling out of your item.Move the handheld steamer back and forth over thewrinkles to remove them.Let the item dry on a hanger. You can achieve the same effect with the spout of a tea kettle if you don't have a handheld steamer.Bring your kettle to a boil and then remove it from the heat.To steam the wrinkled areas of your item, aim the spout at it.
Step 11: Hang it up if you turn the item inside out.
If you want to protect the silk from damage from the hair dryer, flip the item.Hang it on a hook, towel rack, or even on your shower curtain rod.If you only have a fewwrinkles, drying them with your hair dryer is a quick and easy way to work them out.If you wash your silk item, you can hang it up to dry and it won't get wrinkled under the weight of the damp item.If you want to speed the drying process, aim a fan at your silk item.
Step 12: It's a good idea to mist the item with a spray bottle of water.
You can fill a spray bottle with water. The wrinkled areas of the silk item should be misted thoroughly.Don't worry about areas that are not wrinkled. You don't need to use much water if the item is wrinkled.Mist the areas until they are very damp or wet.If you don't have a spray bottle, you can dip the wrinkled areas into water or hold them under water to get them wet.
Step 13: The hair dryer's nozzle should be pointed at the cool setting.
You can turn the hair dryer on to cool or lowest setting.Start moving the silk item back and forth by aiming the nozzle at the damp area.Continue to move the hairdryer over the area until it is dry.If you are using the dryer on low heat, make sure you don't keep it aimed at one section for too long.If you want to work on a different area, move the hairdryer back and forth over the area for about 15 to 20 seconds.
Step 14: Continue until the wrinkling are gone.
If you get 1 section dry, move the dryer back and forth over it.Keep working on one section at a time until the item is dry.
