You have a good grasp on how to hang the curtains on the bay window, because you have put some thought into how you want to dress it up.If you're interested in adding roller blinds but aren't sure how to proceed, fear not. With some careful measuring, a few simple tricks for dealing with the bay's angles, and a handful of basic do-it-yourself skills, you'll have roller blinds that fit your bay like a glove!
Step 1: On all sides, measure the depths of your window frames.
If the windows in your bay have deep inset all the way around, you may want to put your blinds in the frames. The brackets for roller blinds are fairly large.Measure the depths from the front face of the window frame to the horizontal rails and vertical stiles, the thin strips of trim that hold the glass in place.Use the smallest measurement for each window in your bay as your reference point. These are only a few inches, so either a ruler or tape measure will work. You might need a ladder for taller bays.
Step 2: Measure to the depths of the available brackets.
For instance, compare the depths of the roller blind manufacturers and models if your windows have a minimum 2.5 inch.If you like a model that's no larger than 2.5 inches, you can use roller blinds. When ordering online, you should be able to find this information on the packaging. If you have to, ask a sales associate or the manufacturer.
Step 3: Measure the width of each window.
Measure from the left side to the right side near the top of the window where the brackets will be installed. If your window frame is not perfectly square, measure near the middle and bottom of the window. To be on the safe side, subtract 38 of an inch (1 cm) from the smallest width measurement you get.If you're looking for the closest fit amongst in- stock blinds, use these measurements. If you're looking for a box or a bay window, there's a good choice of blinds. If you'd like to showcase them, they are easy to measure and install and don't hide the window frames.
Step 4: From corner to corner, measure the width of the back window.
There are two side panels that meet at 90 degree corners in a box bay window.Make sure to keep the tape level by stretching it across the back window panel from corner to corner. For an extra wiggle room, subtract 38 of an inch (1 cm) from the smallest measurement you can get.
Step 5: The sides of the frames are measured from the corners to the edges.
Take 3 horizontal measurements for each of the side window panels. As a guide, use the smallest measurement for each panel.Subtract 38 of an inch from youriggle room.
Step 6: You should confirm the depth of the roller blind brackets.
Refer to the packaging for the exact dimensions of the brackets before buying or ordering blinds. In order to get the proper width for your blinds, you need to know the depth. The brackets might be 2.5 inches deep.
Step 7: Pick which measurement you want to subtract from.
If you want your back blind to span from corner to corner, you need to subtract 2.5 inches from both of the side panel measurements. If you want the side blinds to span from corner to frame edge, you have to subtract 5 inches from the back panel measurement.Either the side blinds will overlap the back blind at the corners or they will not.If you want to avoid overlap, you can subtract 5 inches from the back panel and 2.5 from each of the side panels. To limit gaps in blind coverage, your measurement and installation needs to be extra precise.
Step 8: Determine the depth of the blind brackets.
You need to know what kind of brackets you will be using before you start measuring. To get the correct depth measurement for the roller blind type you decide on, contact manufacturers or check packaging.
Step 9: The depth should be transferred to two sheets of paper.
Place the two sheets of paper side-by-side.You can use the depth measurement for your brackets to measure the same amount down from the left and right corners of the sheet.Use a pencil or pen to mark the spots.
Step 10: The papers should be on the bay ledge.
If you have a bay with three sides, the top ofSheet A should be against the left side window frame.Keeping each sheet's top side against the window frame, slide them both toward the intersecting corner until the two markings on the paper meet. Then, mark the point on the ledge. If you have a small ledge in a bay window, you can use scraps of cardboard or cut down the paper's size.
Step 11: You can put the two papers together at the other window corners.
You will repeat this process for the back window and the right side window if your bay has 3 sides. You will repeat it 3 more times if it has 5 sides. There are intersecting points on the bay's ledge.
Step 12: The ledge has brackets on it.
On the far left and far right sides of the bay, you can decide where the window frames should rest.Use a tape measure or paper measure to account for the depth of the brackets, and mark the locations on the ledge.
Step 13: You can sketch out a diagram and label it.
A basic diagram of the bay can be created from an overhead perspective. On the diagram, mark the points you made on the bay ledge.A 3-sided bay sketch could include the far left point, the left center corner, and the right-center corner.
Step 14: You can record your findings by measuring between the markings on the ledge.
To get the width of the roller blinds, you'll need to subtract 1 cm from the window width. For example, "ab" is 70 cm and 1 cm is 69 cm.The roller blind has a width. One cm is 97 cm.The width is for the roller blind.1 cm is 71 cm.This is the width of the roller blind.
Step 15: Before ordering or buying blinds, measure for length.
Don't forget to measure your windows from top to bottom after you've established the correct blind width.Measure each window from top to bottom, using the longest measurement as your guide. If your measurement is 67 cm and you can only order 65 cm or 70 cm, you should order blinds that are slightly longer than this in length.
Step 16: Before installing the blinds, test them.
Attach the brackets to the window frame by taping them onto the ends of the roller blind.Make sure it fits according to the spacing and markings you made while measuring or cutting the blinds.
Step 17: Attach the brackets and then add the blinds.
Follow the instructions that come with your blinds if you want to install roller blinds.Hold the brackets in place and mark the screw holes on the window frame. To make sure your brackets are level before drilling, use a bar/spirit level and a string. If you aren't drilling into a sturdy surface, use pre-drill holes for your screws. When you slide the blinds onto the brackets, tug on them to make sure they are securely attached.
