Are your boots old and worn down?Leather boots are easy to dye.You can dye your boots yourself if you want a new look.It is a great way to give your boots a new look.
Step 1: You should clean your boots.
One ounce of leather bleach and one quart of water is all you need.Use a stiff brush to apply this mixture. To remove dirt from your boots, scrub vigorously. If you don't have leather bleach, use a leather cleaner to remove dirt.It is a good idea to thoroughly clean your boots. The better the final outcome, the more dirt you remove. As you scrub your boots use circular motions.
Step 2: Use a deglazer/preparer.
The protective coating must be removed when your boots are clean.Your boots may have been treated with a protective finish after they were dyed. The dye can be absorbed if the coating is removed. Before applying the dye, you need to remove all of this.Rub the deglazer on your boots with a wet cloth or sponge. When you apply the deglazer, the finish and some of the color will come off.You might want to do this outside because of the fumes. If you don't want the color from the rag to bleed onto your boots, use a white cloth or rag.The areas between the sole and upper can be reached with a toothbrush.
Step 3: The deglazer should be allowed to dry.
The deglazer needs to evaporate. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. To make sure you have removed the protective finish from your boots, run a damp rag over them.If you still see some shiny areas on your boots, they need to be deglazed.A successful dye job requires removing the protective finish. If the protective finish is still there, the dye will not penetrate your boots. You may want to let your shoes dry overnight if you have to apply the deglazer multiple times.
Step 4: Put the dye in it.
Put on gloves to protect your hands.Turn the bottle upside down. The mixture should be stir to loosen the substance that has settled to the bottom of the bottle. The dye should be put in a container. The instructions for the dye should always be read. You should mix the dyes at this time if you want to create an intermediate color.Rules of color mixing apply to leather dyes as well.Blue and yellow can be mixed to make green. You can change the color of the dye with water. Before you apply the dye to your boots, you should play around with the water-to-dye ratio.
Step 5: The dye should be applied.
You can apply the dye to your boots with a sponge brush, paint brush or cloth.Use long strokes in the same direction to apply a thin coat of the dye.Either vertical or horizontal.Allow the dye to dry for 30 minutes and then apply a second coat. There are some dyes that come with an application brush.Whatever tool you use is most comfortable for you.You can apply a third coat if you don't like the color after the second coat.Allow the coat to dry for 30 minutes. If you apply your first coat using horizontal brushes, apply the second using vertical brushes. The application of the dye will be ensured.Consider using a small paintbrush for hard to reach areas, such as the spot where the sole and the heel meet the leather. Before applying the dye to your boot, you should test a small area.
Step 6: If necessary use an intermediate color.
If you are going from a lighter to a darker color, you should use dyes.If you want to make a drastic color change, use an intermediate color. The first color you use will change the color of your boots. You can follow that color with your final color. If you want to go from white to black, you should dye the shoes green or blue first. If you are going from white to brown, make the shoes green and then brown. If you are going from red to black, you should dye the shoes green first. If you are going from white to bright red, you should dye your shoes yellow and red first. If you're going from white to dark red, you should dye your shoes tan. Before applying yellow dye to your shoes, you should dye them white. Before you apply the next color, allow the dye to dry completely.
Step 7: Allow the boots to dry.
Allow your boots to dry for at least one to two hours after you have applied the color and are satisfied with the final product. You should let your boots dry for 48 hours if you have applied multiple coats of dye.The longer your boots are dry the better.Rub off any dye that is still wet with a cotton rag.Don't scrub the leather, just wipe gently. As your boots dry, the color will intensify.
Step 8: Apply a coat of polish.
Once they have dried, your boots may look dull.Your shoes will look better with shoe polish. You can give your boots some shine with a wax polish. If you want to change the color, use a cream polish. You can apply shoe polish to your boots with a clean rag and circular motions. You can apply a thin layer of polish to your boots. Before you apply a polish to your boots, read the directions carefully. After applying the polish, let your boots sit for twenty minutes.
Step 9: Excess polish should be brushed off.
You can brush your entire boot once you have polished it.After brushing, there should be a thin layer of polish left on the shoe. You won't ruin your boots if you brush vigorously. There are brushes with horse-hair bristles. They will get the job done even if they scratch your boots. When you are done buffing your boots, use a cloth or t-shirt to make them shiny.
