With a normal deck of 52 playing cards, you can make a "sandwich" that will help you find out what card your volunteer picked. This is a good place to practice the essential magician skills of control and break because of the simple trick.
Step 1: Understand the trick from the other person's perspective.
The trick uses two face up cards to locate a card the participant chose. The two players are put to the side. The participant can choose a secret card from the deck. They shuffled the deck after putting it back. The two Aces are placed on top of the deck and cut into the middle.Suddenly, the deck is laid back out and the secret card is facing down between the two of them.
Step 2: Remove two of them from the pack.
The Aces have a symbolic value that makes them seem more important than any other card. This should be easy if you remember which two of them are.
Step 3: Your volunteer can pick their card from the deck.
Set it on the top of the deck after they pull it out. They pulled the Jack of Diamonds.
Step 4: You can use your favorite control to shuffle the deck, but keep the card you want on top.
You have to shuffle the deck in order to make the trick look legit. The trick is useless if you don't remember where the Jack of Diamonds is.Magicians use controls to keep cards in place and shuffle them. There are many things to learn.Cut the deck in half, if you don't have any down.Place the top half of the deck under the bottom half to keep them separate from the viewer. This is called a break.Holding the break in place with one hand, use the other to pull off small stacks of cards, shuffling them to the bottom of the deck.Pull off the top stack until you get to your break. You're done.A viewer can't notice the break if you practice doing this quickly.
Step 5: The top card has a thumb on it.
It will take some practice to pull it off.The back of the top card has the Jack of diamonds on it.You'll need to slide one of the ace's under this card to create another small break in the deck.To sandwich the top card, quickly slide the two ace around it.You'll need to separate the two ace's to do that.To pull it off.Pick up all three cards above the break if you pinch the deck from both ends.To reveal the other ace, use your thumb to slide off the top card."Here is the second ace, you see the first one."You have two cards here.Take the top card and put it under the two cards. You now have a sandwich.
Step 6: Step back and cut the ace into the middle of the deck.
If you have to snap your fingers, tell the viewer that the work is happening.Don't back yourself away from the deck to show them you're not involved in any way.The cards are in the middle of the deck.
Step 7: If you slide the deck out on the table, you will see the exposed ace and their mystery card.
Ask them to give the card to you.It will be theirs.
