A reason to be excited is graduation day.Since it happens only once or twice in a lifetime, you can turn your grad cap into an original work of art.Make it a fun night with your friends.
Step 1: Make sure that you are allowed to decorate.
You don't want to spend hours slaving away over your cap only to find out you're not allowed to wear itYou should ask a teacher or school counselor if you are breaking any rules.
Step 2: Have a plan.
Think about not only the message you wish to portray, but the decorating scheme as well. This will make your cap look better.Pick up some colored pencils and write something down. This is a fun group night if you involve your friends.Make some snacks, have everyone bring over decorating supplies, and have a discussion. You can apply a theme while keeping your hats individual by decorating together. If you are on a sports team, a theme will work well.
Step 3: Get your supplies.
There is nothing worse than starting a craft project and realizing you don't have everything you need. You can make a list of materials by applying a plan.
Step 4: Write something out with a fabric pen.
Pens that can be safely and effectively used on fabric are what they sound like. They have special features such as metallics, glitter or opaque. The exception to being similar to regular pens is that you squeeze while you move the pen to release the color.Caution should be used when working with glue.If you see a fabric pen in your eye, use a water rinse to remove it.
Step 5: The crystals need to be applied with a glue gun.
A glue gun can be used to add rhinestones.Put your rhinestones upside down on a piece of paper towel or cardboard. There is a small amount of glue on the back of the rhinestone. If you want to push the rhinestone into your cap, you need to count to three and use the tweezers. Most dollar or craft stores have glue guns. They come in a lot of sizes and colors. If you don't have a steady hand, invest in a pre-made accessory. These will often have several rhinestones in the shape of words or pictures with one solid, tacky back, so they can be applied all together.
Step 6: You can glue glitter paper onto the base of your hat.
The glitter paper can be trimmed to fit the base of your hat. After trimming, apply glue to the edges of the paper.Line up the edges with your hat and apply the paper to the top of it.Are you not a fan of the glitter paper? The trick would work with any paper.
Step 7: You can make your own stencil.
To make your own stencil, draw out your design on a piece of printer paper. After laying down a protective top to your table, lay the printer paper right side up.Carefully cut out your design with an exacto knife.Once satisfied with your cut job, voila!Your stencil is ready to be used. You can find pre-made stencils at your local dollar store. This will allow you to skip the drawing and cutting of your stencil. If you want to print your image directly onto your paper, you only need to cut it.Laminating your paper before cutting will up your stencil game. This will allow your stencil to have a smooth edge and prevent it from bleeding into the rest of your cap after painting.
Step 8: You can put the stencil on your cap.
Lie up where you want your stencil to go.The stencil should be taut against your cap when you decide on the spot. You should use tape to prevent the stencil from shifting.
Step 9: Get a paintbrush.
Use a smaller paintbrush to paint your stencil.Hold the stencil to the cap and paint the edges. There is a risk of bleeding from excess paint. You can use fabric paint. The paint will age with grace. If you don't have the option of this, stick with simple acrylic from the dollar storeSchool spirit can be added to your hat by stenciling in your school's logo or colors. This can be an effective way to add excitement to your graduation ceremony.
Step 10: Wait for the paint to dry and then remove the stencil.
Wait overnight for your paint to dry and be cautious. The longer you wait, the more solidified your paint is.Lift the tape and pull the stencil away if you are confident the paint is solid.Waiting will make sure that the paint on the stencil doesn't get on your hands or the rest of your cap.
