Not many people think to clean their wallet when they are dirty. If you have a leather wallet that is stained or just dirty from everyday use, you can use either a liquid leather cleaner for regular wear and tear or saddle soap for a deeper clean. If you want to make your wallet shine, use a conditioner.
Step 1: The leather should be wiped with a wet cloth.
Wet a soft cotton cloth with warm water and wring it out.If you want to get a deep clean on your wallet, you have to wipe it clean. It's a good idea to take everything out of your wallet. If you leave water on the surface of your wallet, it could cause the leather to crack or degrade.
Step 2: Rub the cloth with a small amount of saddle soap.
Any kind of leather can be cleaned with saddle soap.Rub a small amount of saddle soap on a corner of the cloth. You can buy saddle soap in convenience stores.
Step 3: It's a good idea to clean your wallet.
Work with the grain of your leather or the way that the wrinkling occurs after applying the soap to the cloth. The dirt will come up onto the cloth when you rub the soap on your wallet. You should be able to see no more soap in the leather. The seams on your wallet should not be torn or broken while you are cleaning them.
Step 4: There is a circular motion for cleaning deep stains.
Rub the end of a cotton swab in the saddle soap to get at the stain. If one end of the cotton is dirty, use the other end.Once you have worked the soap into the leather, wipe it off with a clean cloth.
Step 5: Leave the wallet in a towel for 10 hours.
Place your wallet on a towel that is slightly larger than it.The wallet should be completely covered by folding the sides of the towel.Press on the towel lightly and let it dry in a cool area for 10 hours.Even though the wallet is wrapped, keep it out of direct heat.
Step 6: A leather cleaner can be sprayed onto a wallet.
Before opening the bottle of leather cleaner, shake it.Put your wallet on a table in front of you. There are about 2 pumps of leather cleaner on top of a folding wallet. The cleaner should soak the leather for about 30 seconds. Before you start cleaning your wallet, make sure to empty it.The leather cleaner can be bought from convenience stores.
Step 7: The toothbrush is stiff and can be used to scrub the wallet leather.
Work in circles to get the cleaner into the leather.Continue scrubbing until the cleaner suds up on your wallet. When you're done with one side of the wallet, scrub the other side.If you put too much pressure on the seams, they may come undone while you are cleaning them.
Step 8: You can clean your wallet with a cloth and leather cleaner.
The leather cleaner should be sprayed onto the corner of a soft cleaning cloth. The cleaner needs to be put into the slots and pockets. If your wallet has a liner, you can use a damp cloth to clean it.
Step 9: Remove the cleaner from the wallet with a clean cloth.
To remove the cleaner from the leather, use a clean cotton cloth. While wiping the cleaner off, be gentle and not cause any damage to your wallet. When you have removed all of the suds, pat the wallet with your towel to get rid of any residual cleaner.Since it could scratch or damage the wallet, don't use an abrasive cloth to clean your leather.
Step 10: Allow the wallet to air dry overnight.
Out of direct sunlight, leave your wallet in a dry area.It can dry completely if it is left alone overnight or for at least 10 hours. You can put your items back in the wallet once it is dry.Don't put your wallet in a dryer or in direct sunlight because the leather may shrink or crack.
Step 11: The leather conditioner needs to be rubbed on the corner of a soft cotton cloth.
Leather conditioner is used to keep it soft.Take the edge of your cleaning cloth and dip it in the conditioner.Remove any excess conditioner from the towel and put it back into the tin.Online or in convenience stores, leather conditioner can be found.Use a conditioner that is specifically made for the material of your wallet.
Step 12: Work the conditioner into a wallet.
You can rub the conditioner into the wallet by pinching the towel between your fingers.Go over the entire wallet with small circles.Go over the same area multiple times to coat the surface evenly. As you apply the conditioner, the color of your leather may appear darker. It won't change the color.
Step 13: Place a clean, dry cloth on the wallet.
The towel you used to apply the conditioner should be different. If you want to rub the leather with the grain, put firm pressure on the towel as soon as you finish applying the conditioner.Rub your wallet until it has a bright sheen.
