Text files are smaller than Word documents, but don't have formatting.They can be used for e-mail or posting to the web.Programing files are written in plain text and can be used to store notes or other files.
Step 1: Open your document.
Step 2: The file menu is near the left hand corner.
There are four colored boxes in the top left hand corner of the big round button on the newest version of Microsoft Word.
Step 3: The drop down menu has a Save As option.
Click on the text document if that opens another menu.
Step 4: You can enter a document name.
Step 5: There is a drop down box underneath the document name box.
Click save if it says.txt, text, plain text or similar.Click on the box and find one of the aforementioned formats, then click save.
