Flies can be annoying, buzzing around and landing on food. They can be a topic of interest to some.Whether you're trying to catch flies for food or just want to get rid of them, there are a number of effective methods you can try.
Step 1: A trap can be made from a bottle.
A plastic water bottle is used to make one of the most effective homemade fly traps.Cut off the top quarter of the bottle with scissors after removing the cap.You can fill the bottom part of the bottle with sugar, water, and blue food colouring. The blue colour will attract flies if it isn't yellow.Yellow is the only color that repels flies.A small amount of water mixed with dish soap and a few drops of apple cider vinegar will attract flies. If you want to form a funnel, take the top quarter of the bottle and turn it upside down. The flies can crawl into the bottle, but it will be hard for them to get out.Place the fly trap in a sunny spot that is frequented by flies and wait for them to collect inside the bottle.
Step 2: Use a glass jar and plastic wrap to make a trap.
If you don't have any plastic bottles around, you can make a fly trap using a glass jar and some plastic wrap.Take your glass jar and fill it with sugar water or a solution of sugar dissolved in apple cider vinegar with a squirt of dish soap.To cover the opening of the glass jar, take a square of plastic wrap.If it feels loose, use a rubber band.To poke a small hole in the plastic wrap, use a pen or scissors.Once the fly enters the jar, it will drown in the liquid. If you have seen a lot of flies, place your trap in a sunny spot.
Step 3: You can use flypaper.
Flypaper is a type of sticky paper that you can hang around your home to catch flies. The paper is coated in a sticky substance that attracts flies and causes them to stick.Flypaper is a very effective method of catching flies.
Step 4: You can make your own flypaper.
You can make your own non-toxic version of flypaper by using a brown bag, maple syrup and sugar.Use a pen to poke a hole at the top of each strip and thread a little string or twine through to form a loop.In a wide pan or bowl, mix half a cup of maple syrup, white sugar, and brown sugar.Place the strips of paper in the mixture and leave them to soak for several hours or overnight.Put the strips above the sink until they stop dripping.Wherever you have a problem with flies, hang them indoors or outdoors.
Step 5: Put your hand together.
Taking your dominant hand and bending it into a cup shape is the first step in catching a fly.Shut your fingertips against your hand.If you want to trap the fly, leave a hollow space inside.Be cautious. You will crush the fly if you shut your hand too tightly or make a fist. This will not be a problem if you don't mind that the fly dies.
Step 6: Wait for the fly to land.
It's best to wait until the fly lands on a flat surface, such as a table or counter top, if you want to catch a fly with your bare hands.Slowly move towards the fly.You will have to wait for the fly to land again if there is a sudden movement. It is easier to predict the fly's movements when they land on a stable surface. You don't want to knock anything over in your fly-catching attempts if the surface is cluttered.
Step 7: You can wave your hand over the fly.
When the fly lands, take your cupped hand and wave it a few inches above the ground, just like you practiced. The fly will fly upwards and directly into your cupped hand if it senses your hand movement.Close your hand quickly to trap the fly inside. You can now release the fly outdoors, put it in a jar for an inspection, or give it to a pet.
Step 8: Take your materials.
To catch a fly using this method, you will need a clear plastic cup, a sheet of paper, and a large index card. The card helps keep the cup closed and the fly from escaping.
Step 9: Wait for the fly to land.
It will be easier to catch the fly on a stable surface, such as a table top or kitchen counter.Slowly move towards the fly.You will have to wait for the fly to land again if there are sudden movements.
Step 10: The cup should be over the fly.
Quickly and stealthily place the cup over the fly, trapping it inside.Follow it around until it lands again.
Step 11: The paper is underneath the cup.
You have to decide how to lift the cup from the flat surface without letting the fly escape.A large index card or sheet of paper can be used to solve this problem. You should keep the cup close to the table when sliding your paper beneath it.The fly could escape if you leave a big gap.
