A buzz cut is an easy style to cut and will leave you with hair that is very low maintenance. You need high-quality clippers to give yourself or someone else a buzz cut.By buzzing the hair slowly and evenly, you will end up with a buzz cut.
Step 1: Use clippers with secured guards.
If you don't already own a pair of high-quality clippers, you can buy them online for between $20 and $120.Make sure the guard is fastened to the clippers. If it falls off you could end up with a bald spot.clippers, charging station, guards, combs, and barber scissors are included in a kit. It's important to keep your clipper well-oiled.If your clipper didn't come with oil, you can buy it online or at your local department store.
Step 2: The cutting area should be covered with a towel or plastic.
If you want to catch all of the hair that has been buzzed off, place plastic over the area. You can cover your shoulders with plastic or a towel to make it easier to clean.Cut the hair in a place that is easy to clean, such as an open room with hard floors, a bathroom, or even outside.
Step 3: Start with dry hair.
It is more difficult to cut hair that is wet, greasy, or matted down. You should wash the hair before you cut it.Make sure the hair is dry and ready to be buzzed.
Step 4: The top of the head needs to be buzzed evenly.
Start buzzing the top of the head after securing the chosen guard length. You want to hold the guard against the head, buzzing from the front to the back in rows.If you're cutting your hair yourself, you want to make sure you have a good grip on the clippers. To see what you're doing, stand in front of a mirror. Most clipper kits have 8 guard lengths.A #1 guard will cut the hair the shortest, and a #8 guard won't leave a lot of hair in place. If you want a really short buzz cut, use clippers without a guard. You may need to move the clippers in different directions when you get to the crown.
Step 5: Use a shorter guard length to cut the hair on the sides of the head.
Most people buzz the sides and back of the head with a smaller guard setting than they used on the top of their head.Start where the sideburns are and buzz the sides of the head in an upwards motion.Work with care around the ears.No guard could be used on the sides if you used a #1 guard. To maintain an even cut, work slowly around the edges.Go in an upwards motion the same way.The sides and back of the hair are kept shorter because it looks better on the sides when it grows back.
Step 6: You can buzz the back of the head with the same guard size.
Using the same guard setting that was used on the sides, cut the hair starting from the bottom where the neck is going up to the buzzed top, buzzing the back of the head in strips. The guard needs to be flat against the neck so that the cut is even.Since you can't see the back of your head, you need access to 2 mirrors to buzz your hair yourself. You can see all the angles of your head by standing in front of a mirror and holding a handheld mirror.
Step 7: Use the shortest attachment to cut the edges of the cut.
Attach the guard and start at the sideburns with a #1.You should start at the bottom and work your way up to ear-level, or where the head starts to round out.You should clip all the way around each ear.The ear should be pulled inwards to keep it out of the way.One hand should be used to move your ear away from the clippers while the other does the tapering.Make sure you use a mirror.
Step 8: It should be cut to make it look polished.
It is nice and even if you cut the sideburns and neckline with a trimmer. This will make the haircut look professional. If you don't know how to detail the back of your head, ask someone to help you.
Step 9: To make sure it is even, inspect the cut.
You should use a mirror to inspect your haircut after you think you have finished it.Make sure you don't miss any spots.Fix the size guard if you missed a spot or need to do a touch up to make sure the cut is even.
Step 10: Depending on the hair length, choose a guard.
Attach the guard size to your clippers if you want your buzz cut to be short. The shortest cut can be found in a #1 guard size. For an all-over cut, use the chosen guard. You can always cut your hair shorter if you are not sure which length is best for you.
Step 11: For the shortest buzz cut, use the clippers without a guard.
If you don't put a guard on your hair, the clippers will take it off.Since it's so short, be aware that this cut shows the hair on the head.
Step 12: A short buzz cut that still shows hair can be done with a #1 or #2.
While still being short, putting a #1 or #2 guard length on your clippers will leave you with some hair on top.
Step 13: A less intense cut can be used.
If you want a buzz cut while still keeping a head of hair, choose a guard that's a #3 or #4.It will give you 0.25 inches of hair length. You can either use a shorter guard length on the sides and back of the hair, or you can use the #3 or #4 all over.
Step 14: For a gradual fade, choose a crew cut.
The hair on the top of the head is longer than the sides with a crew cut.For the top, choose a #3 or higher.Go down one guard size from the length on the top of the head when buzzing the sides.Go down an additional guard size if you want to trim in the bottom of the cut.
Step 15: Go bold with a tight cut.
You have length on the top of your head and buzzed sides and back of the head. You can choose a guard size for the top of the head.Use a #1 for the sides and back of the head.Instead of a natural fade, this will give you a drastic cut.
Step 16: For a shaped top, try an undercut.
To buzz the sides, back, and part of the top of your head, use a #1 or #2 guard length. You will have long hair in the top-middle of your head, which you can style as you please. If you want to buzz your hair, you should draw a line from the middle of your eyebrows to the back of the head.Instead of leaving the entire top of your head with long hair, you'll shape it so that most of it is shaved.
