You might think that being popular in the fifth grade is impossible. You will be heading off to middle school before you know it, so fifth grade is the perfect time to work on your popularity. The fifth grade can be used to change your image, become more social, and get more involved in your school and community.True popularity doesn't mean being rude to everyone who crosses her path.Being well-liked, respected, and having a great time is what it means. So how do you get there? The first step is to get started.
Step 1: Everyone can see that you are having a good time.
Don't be in other people's shadows. You can't be known as the wallflower who hangs back at school dances or the girl who says nothing in class if you want to be noticed. You need to be known for your positive energy, laughter, and optimistic nature.Whether you're at the playground with your friends or learning about American history in class, you should be enjoying yourself. You don't have to fake it, but you should be able to find something to be happy about in almost any environment. You won't be cracking up in the middle of a science test.To make other people want to be around you, you should be as positive as you can be.People will be less likely to hang out with you if you are negative. This doesn't mean that you have to be happy when you're not.It means that you should push out those negative feelings and project your best self to the world. You don't have to be chipper if you're sad, but you should try to have more good days than bad.
Step 2: Stand out in a good way.
If you're known as the girl who spilled soda all over herself, you won't be more popular.People will notice you more often if you are known for having ridiculously cute shoes, having a unique laugh, and being able to talk to almost anybody. You don't have to dye your hair pink or wear fake tattoos to get noticed; whatever you do has to be more subtle and less attention-calling.It's up to you to decide what your trademark is.People see you walking your dog on the weekends. It can be anything positive that makes you stand out.
Step 3: You should be great at something.
If you have a talent, such as having a great signing voice, being the best kickball player in your grade, or being really good at Spanish, then more people will know who you are and respect you for it.You don't have to be the best at everything. If you're good at one thing, it makes you stand out.Pick something that you care about and try to master it.Being good at something can help you build up your confidence, because you will feel like you have more to offer. It is a win-win situation. If you work on mastering something that is a group effort, such as playing soccer or being in the school play, then this will also be a great way for you to get to know more people and become more popular that way.
Step 4: You should build up your confidence.
Building up your self-confidence is a way to get noticed. It's not always easy to feel confident about yourself, especially when you're in the fifth grade, but you can make an effort to like and be proud of the person you are.You can do this by hanging out with people who make you feel good, trying to excel in school and get help if you need it, and talking to people about the things you love.Stand up to the bully if your friends are being harassed.People will notice it if you have confidence. It's perfectly okay if you feel like you're not good enough.Think about how you can improve yourself, from getting better at talking to new people, to succeeding in school, if you talk to a friend about it.The first step is to make an effort.
Step 5: Have confidence in your body language.
You can look confident, even if you don't always feel confident. If you want people to notice you for being confident, you have to make sure that your body reflects this.Whether you're just walking down the halls or hanging out with friends, your body language can do a lot of work for you.If your body language is confident, it will trick you into feeling more confident and that will never hurt anyone.Don't cross your arms over your chest if you want to have more confidence in your body language.
Step 6: Good hygiene is maintained.
You don't have to be a hair model to take care of yourself. It's important to take care of your looks so that other people notice you and respect you.People will think you don't value yourself very much if you do not care about how you look. This isn't about looking fake or like a celebrity, it's about feeling like you're worth it enough to care for your looks. You should wash your hair, brush your teeth, and shower before school.
Step 7: You should wear clothes that make you feel good.
To be popular, you don't need to keep up with the latest trends or wear what the cool kids are wearing. It won't look right if you try to do that and end up wearing something that's not you.Only if it feels genuine to you can you shop at trendy stores like Hollister or American Eagle. It's more important that your clothes are clean, fit well and make you feel good.Matching accessories, such as necklaces or hats, can complement your look. You don't have to over exert it.
Step 8: It's good to smile at people.
You may think that smiling makes you look desperate, but this is not the case.Everyone loves a person who smiles at them and smiling can make them feel better about themselves and other people as well.If you lock eyes, smile at people when you pass them in the halls, at the bus stop, or in class.Smiling at people will help them put their guard down and make them want to talk to you.You don't need to be crazy about it.Do smile when you look at each other, but don't seek out people to smile at.Smiling a lot will give you a reputation for being friendly and people will be more likely to ask you questions.
Step 9: You can laugh at yourself.
If you slip and get your clothes dirty at school, say "oops" and have fun with your friends, instead of making a big deal about it.If you make an embarrassing comment in class or tell a joke that doesn't make sense, it will only seem like a big deal.People will respect you more and be more excited about hanging out with you if you can laugh, brush things off, and show that you don't take yourself too seriously.Nobody wants to hang out with a person who is so serious that they are afraid of offending them.People will be more excited to be in your circle because they won't feel like they have to watch what you say.
Step 10: Be friendly to everyone.
Ignore the rest if you want to be nice to the "cool" kids.Unless that person gives you a reason not to be, make a habit of being nice and friendly.Don't listen to what other people have to say and decide for yourself if each person is really nice deep down. You should appreciate every person for who they are, smile, and ask how their day was, knowing that you have something to learn from everyone.Being nice and friendly can make you more popular. If someone is treating you poorly, you shouldn't be friendly.People are taking advantage of you if you are nice. You are only in fifth grade. The crowd of popular kids can change from elementary school to high school. It's guaranteed that you won't alienating someone who will become popular later if you're nice to everybody.
Step 11: Things should be positive.
It's impossible to never complain, but you should try to be a positive source of energy. You should talk about the things you love, compliment people, discuss fun things that are just around the corner, such as summer vacation or a movie you really wanted to see, or just make a habit of keeping things upbeat when you're talking to people.People will be less likely to hang out with you if they think of you as a person who is always negative.People will be more likely to approach you if you are known for being positive.People may steer clear of you if they think you'll only complain when they talk to you.
Step 12: Don't be fake.
People can get fake in the fifth grade if they are trying to get something. They may smile at people they don't like, gossip, or just say things that they do not believe in to get attention. In the long run, you should avoid this kind of behavior and work on being yourself because it can boost your popularity in the short run.Don't be dishonest about your interests and let people know who you really are.People will be on to you if you are fake. You may think that popular people backstab and gossip about each other all the time, but they are so confident in themselves that they don't need to.Make sure you stay loyal to your friends and don't fall into temptation. If people gossip around you, try to change the subject or remove yourself from the conversation.
Step 13: Don't be afraid to meet new people.
If you really want to be a social person, you can't just hang out with the people you already know. That won't get you anywhere. You should be open to talking to new people in your class, even if it's someone in another class or a new student. If you are comfortable with yourself, you should be able to talk to new people and introduce yourself.A key trait of popular people is that they aren't afraid to put themselves out there a bit.To be popular you don't have to be outgoing.People who are shy get a bad reputation for being rude.If you're too shy to talk to a new person, you should still smile and be friendly. You don't have to avoid certain people because of their social status. If a person is nice and caring, they should be worth talking to.
Step 14: Take an interest in other people.
If you want to be popular, you have to show people that you care about them, not about yourself. It is possible to open up to people while taking an interest in what they care about, what their lives are like, and what plans they have coming up.Make sure you don't dominate the conversation when you hang out with people, and make sure they are doing at least half of the talking.Ask them questions about their classes, pets, siblings, sports, or anything else they like to talk about. You can show that you are interested in them.Making sure that the person has a chance to open up is an important way to be social. You don't have to ask a lot of questions.People don't want to feel like they are being questioned.Asking a few questions will show that you care.
Step 15: You can get involved at your school.
There aren't as many ways to get involved at your school in the fifth grade as there will be in middle or high school. You can join a foreign language club, pet lover's club or the student council. If it feels right for you, you can run for school president or other student council positions. You can help out your teachers after school if you want to.The more opportunities you have to meet people, the more you will know who you are.
Step 16: You can get involved in your community.
Helping out in your community is one way that you can get involved. You can help your neighbors keep their lawns clean, walk dogs, help out at a park or community, or help with a bake sale if you want to.You may be able to get involved in your community if you go to church or another religious place. You will get to know more people if you help out in your community.Helping out in your community will expose you to a lot of different people. You will gain popularity and be proud of who you are.
Step 17: You can get involved in a sport.
Cheerleaders, soccer, volleyball, baseball, tennis, or any other sport that your school or community offers can be fun to be a part of if you're interested in sports.Being a part of a sport will help you learn to work with others, develop communication skills, and find your niche when it comes to team work, even if you aren't the world's greatest athlete.Anyone can play sports.Being involved in a sport can help you become more involved and popular if it's the right fit for you.If you don't feel athletic enough to join a sport, you should not be concerned. If you find the best fit, give it a try.If you don't like soccer, you can try baseball.Painting or playing guitar may be more exciting for you, if you don't find it clicking with any sport.
Step 18: You can make a variety of friends.
If you want to be a truly social person, you should be involved with a lot of different people in your life.If you want to be friends with the same type of person over and over, you should be friendly with people who are more sporty, more computer literate, and more shy.The more well-known and popular you are, the more comfortable you will be in any social environment.Get to know people in different grades.People in sixth grade can give you tips on how to survive in the higher grades, because they've been there.Don't limit yourself to your school.People from other schools, your neighbors, and people on your rec teams are some of the people you should be friends with. This will make you more comfortable with a variety of people.
Step 19: Help other people.
You should help a friend if they need it.You can help your friends study for tests if you study a lot.Be kind and offer to help people.Don't be mean.Being popular is not about being mean.Don't boss anyone and help others.
