Being popular means that a lot of people like you.To become popular in elementary school, focus on being friendly with your classmates.Don't be afraid to ask a friend to hang out with you if other kids ask you to play.Don't gossip or bully other kids, and treat everyone with kindness, no matter who they are.Everyone will get to know you and love you if you stay true to yourself.
Step 1: Say nice things and let your classmates know you're friendly.
When you make eye contact with another child, smile. They'll know you're a nice person when they see you. When you like something your classmates have done, give them a compliment. This makes the other person feel good and warms them up.You could say, "Hey Ari, your drawing looks really pretty!" or "Emily, it was really nice of you to share your scissors with me today."I'm so glad you asked the teacher that question today, thank you!I was confused about that too.
Step 2: Introduce yourself to kids you don't know.
If you're assigned to a group project with someone you haven't met before, take a moment to introduce yourself.Your introduction should include a question or compliment to get the other person talking. The other person will be happy that you broke the silence.Say, "I don't think we've met before"I'm Rachel, what's your name?Did you attend Mrs. Colt's class last year?Try to get to know them better by showing that you're interested. If you notice something good that someone is doing, you can compliment them. You can say, "Lola, you were an amazing team captain in gym class today!" if you're nervous about talking to kids you don't know.
Step 3: You can meet new people in an activity group.
Don't choose a club because it seems cool, pick activities you're interested in.You can join a group through your school or community if you like volleyball, dance, gymnastics, or singing. You can volunteer and help others with your free time.Ask your parents to help you find a local organization that you could help with. You could volunteer at your church or library. You could volunteer with a food pantry or a park clean-up group.Introduce yourself and be friendly to everyone you meet when you show up for your group meetings. You'll have a lot to talk about with your classmates if you do things you like outside of school.A friend could join you sometime.
Step 4: When someone asks you to hang out or play with them, say "yes"
If another kid asks you to tag with them on the playground, or if they invite you for their birthday party, accept their invitation. If you say yes, people will get to know you and like you. They might not ask you again if you are just a little nervous. If the event is outside of school, you should ask your parents for permission to attend. If you can't go, it's okay to say no.Let the person know that you would like to be friends. If you're not comfortable with a person's behavior or something they asked you to do, talk to a parent or guardian.
Step 5: Keep your promises.
Show up when you've agreed to hang out with a new friend.Bring the book to school the day after you lend it.Don't share a secret if you promised not to.People will trust and like you if you stick to your word. You will make others feel special.Establishing good friends is dependent on loyalty. They will eventually do the same for you if you are a loyal friend.Don't cancel your plans at the last minute.People are tired of friends who never show up.It would be easy to stay at home if you were supposed to go to a friend's birthday party in an hour.Go to the party and cheer yourself up.You'll have a lot of fun.
Step 6: Ask other kids to hang out with you.
It can be nerve-racking to ask someone to join you for a movie. You'll never know what they would have said if you never asked.Think about what your classmates like to do and decide what to invite them for.You can invite other kids to hang out with you.Ask your classmates if they'd like to kick a soccer ball around with you during recess.Outside of school, you can invite others to play with you.Ask your parents if you can invite your new friend to bake cookies with you.Don't take someone's rejection of your invitation personally.Their decision to say no probably has nothing to do with you, but with something else in their life.
Step 7: It's a bad idea to try to become popular by social climbing.
It doesn't really work if you hang out with certain kids and leave out other kids. You might hurt the people who like you.Be nice and kind to everyone around you.To befriend the people you want to befriend, offer genuine friendship.Social climbing involves ranking other kids and trying to climb up the ladder to join a group of people you think are more popular than you.Don't try to hang out with a cool girl just because you like her.Show that you're interested in her.If you have anything in common, ask her questions about yourself.Don't pretend that you get along with someone if you decide that's not true. You don't have to treat your old friends badly when you make new friends.Keep your promise and sit with your friend on the bus.Don't sit with your new friend on the bus.
Step 8: When a friend speaks to you, use good listening skills.
Show genuine interest in what your friend is saying.Let them speak and pay attention.Ask them questions about their interests.Your classmates might want to spend more time with you.Try asking your friend questions such as, "What topic did you pick for the science project?" and "Which TV shows do you like to watch?"This can be rude.If you're talking with someone you don't know very well, open your mind and listen closely. It is possible that you have a lot in common.
Step 9: Don't leave anyone out of your classmates.
You're being mean if you don't allow other people to sit near you. This behavior won't make you popular. You will be popular at school if most of your classmates see you as nice.A group of friends leave other kids out of their circle.liques are cool in some movies and books. These stories aren't good examples of how to act.
Step 10: Don't gossip about your friends.
Gossip can be a way to get people to listen to you, but it is harmful to the other person and to yourself.Don't make fun of a classmates back or spread rumors.Try to be understanding.Change the subject if a friend tries to gossip with you.You have to put yourself in the other person's shoes to understand what they're feeling.Your other friends will feel betrayed if word gets around that you are trash- talking. You could change the subject by saying that you don't like Lucy's outfit today, but I think Lucy is really sweet.Let's not be mean. What are you planning to wear for the recital next week?
Step 11: Don't encourage your friends to bully you.
Don't threaten your classmates, say mean things to them, or hurt them. You'll gain popularity with your peers if you stand up against bullies.Bullies are not popular or well-liked.Don't use stereotypes to come up with mean things. You will miss out on a lot of friends.
Step 12: You should wear clothes that make you feel good.
Don't think about how clothes make you look.Think about how they make you feel.Pick out clothes that make you feel good.If you love trends and how they make you feel, you can follow them.Pick outfits that show off your personality and make you feel like you can take on the world.Confident, comfortable people are easy and fun to be around.Other people will start to feel awkward around you if you're not comfortable with your clothes.Take care of your uniform if you wear a school uniform. If that's allowed at your school, try to express your personality by doing your hair how you like. You can express yourself through clothes on the weekends.
Step 13: Keep your appearance clean.
It's a good idea to take a bath or shower on a regular basis. You should brush your teeth and hair at least twice a day. It's a good idea to wear antiperspirant to stay fresh.Good care of your clothes will keep them free of wrinkling.Don't worry about wearing makeup.A lip balm or lipgloss is all you need.If you want to learn how to do laundry, ask your parent or guardian. You will have clean clothes whenever you want them because they will appreciate the help.
Step 14: No matter who you're with, stay true to yourself.
If you join an exclusive group, you might act differently. If you're sitting next to someone you don't really know, you might ignore them.Don't switch your behavior based on who you're with; focus on being your true self. When you're around older or younger kids, be friendly to them just as you are to people your own age. When you find a new group of friends, your old friends will feel left out and sad.You could lose your friendship if they don't like the new person you've become.People in school will get to know the real you if you are always true to yourself.
Step 15: Do well in school and focus on learning.
It's tempting to pass notes and whisper to your friends, but try to pay attention in class.Take good notes, participate in hands-on activities and study for tests.Don't be afraid to take music and gym classes.Keep an open mind and learn as much as you can.You may be able to connect with other kids who are similar to you. Some of your classmates might be put off if you slack off in school or complain about your classes.Work hard in school.Your classmates will admire you for your willingness to try new things.
Step 16: If you're having a hard time, talk to a trusted adult.
If you're not sure how to start making friends or if you are feeling sad and lonely, seek the assistance of a parent, guardian, teacher, or guidance counselor.Do you know what you can do to manage your feelings? If you're worried that you aren't popular enough, talk to your trusted adult about what popular means to you.It has more to do with your self-esteem than with friends. You might be jealous of another kid's clothes and lifestyle and think being popular would make you feel better about yourself. The problems can be solved in other ways.
