There are a number of reasons why fingerprints have been studied.A person's fingerprints are what they will always have, even if they have serious injuries. The likelihood of two people having the same print is roughly one in 64 billion. The lines of study include finding and recording fingerprints at crime scenes, and palmistry which reads and analyzes the shapes of fingerprints to derive meaning from them.In forensics, you need to locate prints, determine the surface they are on, photograph, and lift the prints.Basic palmistry requires choosing a hand to read, a finger to look for shapes, and exploring the meaning of it.
Step 1: Look for prints.
There are a few ways to find forensic fingerprints. Some fingerprints will be visible and others invisible when you start looking for them. You should search for patent ones first, then place a marker by it to remind you later.A blue light with an orange filter is an alternate light source that can be used to search for prints. This helps make prints stand out.Plastic prints are found in soft surfaces like soap.
Step 2: Dust is used for prints.
Dust the prints to make them more visible when you find an alternative light source. For amateur home use, talcum powder or cornstarch is a great alternative to special powder. You need a brush with a lot of bristles.Dust the print with the light source still showing it.It is best to turn the other lights in the room off when using an alternate light source.
Step 3: Take a picture of the prints.
Taking a picture with a high resolution camera is the best way to collect patent prints that are already visible and have been revealed with light and dust. It's easier to look at prints in photo form.Take a picture that is close enough to see the print. You want a ruler next to the print to give a scale for how large it is.It's helpful because it allows you to store the prints on the computer for analysis.
Step 4: Determine the type of surface the prints are on.
Any surface can have fingerprints on it.There are three types of surface: porous, smooth and non-porous rough. There are things of a cloth nature that are considered porous.Glass or a table are examples of non-porous smooth.A plastic container with a textured edge is non-porous rough. The surface type can either make it easy or hard to lift a good print.
Step 5: Lift the prints.
Lifting the prints with tape or gel is the second way to get them.If you want a smooth surface, place a piece of clear tape over the print and peel it off.If you lay the tape straight down on the print, it will smudge it.The photograph is the easiest way to collect porous and non-porous rough surfaces.Gel lifter or superglue are required to get into the grooves.A gel lifter is a product made for lifting prints from rough surfaces and it is laid over the fingerprints and creates a small 3D cast of the print. After applying superglue to the print, it can be peeled off to create a mold. This will allow you to file a piece of physical evidence of the prints you took.
Step 6: You have to match the prints.
It is not easy for someone to do this on their own.You can compare the prints you lifted to those if you have a set of known prints.Look for patterns that are similar to the prints. There are computer programs that can read a lot of points on a person's fingerprints and match them to other prints, but this is more for professional work.
Step 7: You can choose which hand to read.
There is one main thing which you can keep in mind as you listen to different schools of thought on which hand to read. Most tricky tasks are performed with a dominant hand, the one that they write with. The best way to read the public self is with the dominant hand. The world sees things about you.You can tell things about the private self by reading the non-dominant hand.Choices can be made based on male or female, present life versus future life, or both. The dominant hand is the one to read when it comes to your career and work life.Emotions, relationship issues, and dreams are often revealed by the non-dominant hand.
Step 8: The focus should be on the thumb.
The way fingerprints show up on each finger tends to reveal different things about a person, so a shape on the middle finger may not mean the same thing as a pinkie finger. As you get better at analyzing fingerprints, you can learn more about each finger, but you should start with the thumb. The thumb is thought to be a representation of the entire hand. The thumb represents the person's overall identity.
Step 9: Look at the shape.
It's a good idea to press the thumb into black ink to make it easier to read. The whorl is the second most common pattern of prints, followed by the loop and the arch. These are what you will typically find, even though there are more rare distinctions.A loop is like a lasso. An arch is similar to a bridge.A whorl has a bullseye on it.The tented arch and the composite whorl are both variations on the same sign.
Step 10: You should look for a loop.
There are two types of loops, ulnar and radial, and they both mean the loop opens away from the fingers.Ulnar loops are the most common print and are found on people. It's possible to identify someone who is flexible and easy to get along with with this print.ulnar loop people are scattered and have a hard time organizing. They may be restless, not quite at ease.Someone who is open minded and clever is represented by the less common radial loop. They give to those in need. The downside for radial loop people is that they will start to absorb too much stress if they don't stay focused.
Step 11: There is a whorl.
A series of closed circles can be seen in this print.People with a strong sense of independence and individuality are more likely to be found in this print. They can become overly focused if they are rigid in their mindset. They may have a short fuse and become angry easily, which is the downside of this print type.Once they start a project, they lose interest. The peacock's eye is a variation of the whorl that has a series of circles smudged on one side.
Step 12: An arch is what you should look for.
This print is often found on someone who is analytical and practical and always trying to figure out the best approach to situations. They may be hard to get along with if they are set in their ways.arch people tend to be very loyal to the people they care about. The variation of the tented arch is basically an arch with a pointed top.The people may be open one day and closed the next.
