Do you know that you can use paper to adhere pictures and illustrations to canvas? The paper may not adhere properly if you just use ordinary glue. You can use a plain canvas as a base for a picture or photo with the right technique.
Step 1: You can pick a type of canvas.
There are two main types of canvas. The canvases are light and ideal for framing. The canvases are stretched over the frame. If you want to extend your design over the edges, they are perfect.
Step 2: Pick a size for your project.
If you are going to glue a picture onto the canvas, choose something that is the same size as your image. It's easier to trim an image to fit a canvas the other way around. You have the option of choosing any size of canvas you want.
Step 3: If you want, paint your canvas a background color.
It's only necessary if you're going to use it for a piece of art.You should paint the edges of the canvas if you are going to adhere an image onto it.It is the best for this because it dries the fastest.Oil paint will take too long to cure, and watercolor paint won't stick.Pick a color that makes your images look different.A single image will cover the entire canvas if you choose a color that matches it.
Step 4: Allow the paint to dry before applying a coat of sealant.
You should choose a Sealer that you like the best. You can skip this step if you didn't paint the canvas.
Step 5: If necessary, trim the paper down.
A metal ruler, a paper slicer, and a craft blade are needed. The edges should be neat and nice.To fit the canvas, you will need to trim the image down.If you want to make a picture look more interesting, trim down the images to different sizes.Use a metal ruler and a sharp blade to cut the paper after you trace the canvas onto the back of your image.
Step 6: If you want to work with a medium, choose it.
Mod Podge is the cheapest, most readily available option. Most decoupage glues are not waterproof and may get tacky if wet.You can use an acrylic paint medium instead.Unlike most glues, the acrylic medium is waterproof.
Step 7: The front of the canvas should be covered with a thin coat of your chosen medium.
You can use a foam brush to do this.If you put on too much medium, the paper will soak it up.Attach the glue to the back of the image and work one image at a time.
Step 8: The paper should be put on the canvas.
If you are covering the entire canvas, you should match the bottom edge of the paper with the top edge. The paper should be adjusted until you are happy with the placement.
Step 9: To adhere it, smooth the paper down.
You can do this with your hands or with a special roller, which can be found in an arts and crafts store.Work your way towards the outside edges of the canvas by smoothing the paper out from the middle.
Step 10: Make sure to clean up any excess medium.
Some of your medium may have leaked out from under the paper as a result of all that smoothing out.You can use your paintbrush to wipe it away. This will make it easier to seal the edge of the paper against the canvas.
Step 11: You can apply a thin coat of medium to the image.
Start from the center and work your way outward. To seal it in, extend the medium past the edges of the image. It is important to coat the sides of the canvas as well.Use long strokes to give your image a nice canvas-y texture.
Step 12: The medium should be allowed to dry.
You will need to wait between 15 and 20 minutes depending on the medium you are using. If you apply the next layer too soon, you may get air bubbles. The layers may not cure properly.
Step 13: Adding more layers of images is a good idea.
You can make photos look more interesting by putting smaller images and cutouts on top.Press the medium against the canvas after applying it to the back of the image.Let the image dry before you move on.
Step 14: It's time to apply a final top coat.
As a sealer, most glues and acrylics can double-up.They come in a number of finishes. You can either use the one you used before or choose a different one.You will need to seal the side edges if you used a thick canvas. You can apply more than one layer of top coat, but you need to let the previous layer dry first.
Step 15: Allow the medium to cure before showing the piece.
It doesn't mean that something is dry and ready to use. Most medium require at least a day or two to cure, so check the label for a cure time. You can hang the canvas as you please after the medium has cured. You should wait a few more days if the medium is tacky or sticky.
