Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem. It doesn't cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.
Do you have to pay to be an AA member?
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. An A.A. group will usually have a collection during the meeting to cover expenses, such as rent, coffee, etc., and to this all members are free to contribute as much or as little as they wish.

How long do you have to be sober to chair a meeting?
In my area it's at least 6 months before a person can chair. At most meetings I have been to they would like the Chairperson to have at least 6 Months. This is usually enough time for a new person to have gotten a sponsor and to have done a few steps.
Do you have to be sober to go to AA?
Only those with a drinking problem can become AA members or attend closed meetings. People with issues other than alcoholism can join Alcoholics Anonymous only if they also have a drinking problem. The only eligibility of membership is a desire to quit drinking.
What are the rules of AA?
The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. This is contained in the preamble. Some members can get blustery and demanding. “You have to work the steps!”, “You have to have a sponsor, and you have to get one tonight!”.
Are there AA phone meetings?
We follow the primary puropse and 12 traditions of A.A. This is a topic meeting. Our hope is to give alcoholics a place to go on holidays when things might be tough, and also to have members be there for them in their time of need. We meet by telephone every day at 1pm EST.

What does C mean for A.A. meetings?

Crosstalk is giving advice to others who have already shared, speaking directly to another person rather than to the group and questioning or interrupting the person speaking at the time.
