Be able to run. You do not have to have marathon experience, but a minimum of 15-20 miles a week is a great base to handle your training programs without overuse injuries, such as shin splints, stress fractures, joint tendinitis and others.
Can you go to basic training out of shape?
You won't fail military basic training for being out of shape (the instructors won't let you), but they'll keep you in basic training as long as it takes for you to pass the standards.
How much should I run to prepare for basic training?
Two hours and 30 minutes per week of “moderate-intensity aerobic activity” and weight training muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days a week that work all major muscle groups. OR.
Do you need to be in shape for basic training?
Basic training involves physical challenges that pit you against your own body. More often than not, you will be required to develop the strength to deal with your own body weight in the form of push-ups, running, and swimming. Lifting weights and seated cardio can be good supplements to running and swimming.
Can I join the military if I'm out of shape?
NO. You have to have a baseline minimum of a physical standard and be within the body weight regulation. The Marines don't have a National Guard.
Can you go to basic training overweight?
You can still serve the U.S. Armed Forces if you are obese by receiving a medical waiver. Approximately 20% of new recruits need a waiver for their weight to attend boot camp. How much do you have to run in Army basic training?
You do a one mile run, one minute of sit-ups and one-minute of push-ups. Basically you start out doing one-mile, and you breakup in groups of A, B, and C groups. A group of course being the fastest, B being fairy good and C being the more slower pace. We started out running at least a mile, a mile every other day.8 Sept 2015
How far should you be able to run before joining the army?
No more than 4 miles. Get the pace to around 8 minutes and 30 seconds per mile. this will meet BCT requirements. If you are not used to running build up slowly and don't injure yourself.
