The i20 is owned by me.The light stayed on even after the car was turned on.I couldn't continue driving because the steering was stiff and I had to park it again. The last time I drove the car was about 12 hours before the issue appeared. There have been instances where the steering works perfectly for a few seconds, then the light goes off, and the Steering is stiff again.
After taking a day off, I decided to take it to a mechanic. The mechanic wanted a payment to check the issue, so I took it to the local shop. The technician attached a scanning device to the car under the steering wheel and ran a diagnostic on the engine at the authorized service centre. After running the diagnostic twice, the program showed that the engine and the EPS were fine, even though the technician did not share the details. The service advisor told me that I would have to replace the entire power steering system at a cost of 20000.
I would like to know what could possibly cause a malfunction like I have described before I commit to making such a massive expense on the car.One mechanic claims that the motor on the inside is damaged and needs to be replaced, while another claims the module is faulty and should be changed. My father is an experienced driver who has been in another country for 30 years. How should I try to figure out the problem and see if I need to spend a lot of money to get it resolved?
I found out that there is no power steering fluid in my car because I have an electric steering system.
After checking the prices at the service station, I went to a local mechanic. The control unit in the column behind the steering wheel was malfunctioning. The new control unit works well and has been replaced.
If the control unit has power and you can communicate with it, the electric power steering should be setting a code.I believe in everything. The steering column assembly has the motor, control unit and sensors.
