Home Logic UK has a study on the health risks of blowing insulation.
I seem to be reacting to something. The carpets have been removed and replaced with vinyl tiles, but I don't know how long the carpet has been down. This doesn't seem to have solved my problem. When I clean my bedroom cupboards weekly, there is a film of fluff on the surface.I covered the airconditioning vent in the ceiling to see if it was where the fibre was coming from. There doesn't seem to be a place where the fibre can come down from the ceiling. This is a real mystery. My voice is affected and I feel chesty.Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Is there a place where this fibre can be sent to be tested? The Environmental Protection Authority in Australia only tests for lead and asbestos.Thank you.
You can have an air quality test done.If you haven't had an energy audit done on your home, you should. The blower door test will show you where your air leakage pathways are coming from and how connected your attic, basement or crawlspace is to the inside of your home.It will help you figure out which pathway the majority of your leaks are coming from.An owner-operator who performs the energy audit should be the auditor you look for.Explain to them what's going on in your home and have someone do a blower door test with the IR Scan.If you want to have spray foam installed on your attic floor, you can always extract and remove the insulation. It sounds like the insulation is the best solution for dust and air quality concerns.Good luck!
Most of the US market for insulation is made of fiberglass.Only experienced contractors can install fiberglass insulation.I'll be happy to help my neighbor find a reliable contractor to insulate his attic.
The basement has low ceilings. We don't plan to finish the basement because of the low ceilings. It is an important area for regular storage of items because it is a large and open space. The humidity level goes no higher than 40% with the dehumidifier on.There are pink bats on the low ceiling.I worry about being in the basement because I have to sort and collect my things in plastic containers.I want to know if I should remove the insulation all together to make it a safer environment or not.I rely on this area as a regular storage space and spend a lot of time in the basement with exposed fiberglass insulation just above my head, so do you think it's hazardous for me to do that?Does insulation help keep my house warm?Is it a good idea to remove it all?I was considering putting a layer of plastic on top of us, but I read that it could be harmful to the body.I don't know what to do with the unfinished basement, the cement floor, and the fiberglass exposed on the ceiling, because the furnace is right there.Do you plan to vacuum and wipe down container surfaces on a regular basis?Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!
We are remodeling out basement and might use the missing drywall to add insulation. We had an energy assessment last year and had to install an air exchanger because our house was too tight. My questions are after reading your article.I don't know if foam insulation will benefit me or if it will decrease the air exchange even more. Not sure if the basement walls have much air exchange since they are in contact with ground.2.In light of the health risks, will foam insulation in the basement walls pose a problem? What is the best wound for someone in my situation?Thank you in advance, Mia.
The insulation of your home is very important. In warm climates, it keeps the heat outside, and in cold climates it spreads quickly.
I noticed a small shred of glass fiber insulation in my attic, but does that mean the whole house is full of fiberglass?
It is not likely that the fiberglass became airborne, your attic probably had very little to begin with.Depending on the age of the home, there may not have been any insulation installed. If you want to be safe, you should have an air quality test done.
What a great post.It makes you think.Does insulation help keep the house warm?Good job! Thanks for the information.I have found this resource useful and related to what you are talking about.
There is a gas furnace in the attic. There is a gas furnace in the attic. In the same big room and attic, but not the furnace.I don't know if I have a problem with breathing Fiberglas.
