After the eggs hatch, there is a stage in the insect's life called the moths worms.Moths like to lay their eggs near clothing and food pantries because they have a lot of food options to eat once they hatch. If you have found moth worms in your clothing or kitchen, you know how damaging they can be.You can get rid of moth worms by cleaning out your closets and bookshelves.
Step 1: The items should be removed.
Take non-clothing items out of your closet. If you have things like shoe storage racks or organizational items, you need to remove them so that you can thoroughly scrub them.
Step 2: Get rid of the closet or wardrobe.
To clean the floor, walls, shelves, and ceiling of your closet, use an attachment or a handheld vacuum. You should empty the contents into a sealed bag after vacuuming.Remove it from the house.Make sure your closets have the corners and ceiling.
Step 3: The walls and shelves need to be cleaned.
Put soap or detergent in a bowl or bucket and fill it with water.Put the water in the soap. You can use the soapy water to wipe down the walls and shelves with a clean cloth. As you clean the entire closet, keep dipping the rag into the water.
Step 4: It's a good idea to wash your clothes and other fabric items.
The washer can't handle the heat so set it on the hottest cycle. The water needs to reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius) in order to be effective.Allow the clothes to cycle for 20 to 30 minutes to kill all the moths worms and eggs. The larvae will be killed by dry cleaning.
Step 5: You can freeze items that can't be washed.
The freezer makes a great pesticide.A plastic bag is a good place to put your items.Allow at least 48 hours for the cold to kill any larvae on the item, if you put them in the freezer.
Step 6: Don't put clothes in your closet.
If you plan to wear clothing more than once, you should find another place to store it until you are ready for your second or third wear.Clothes with sweat or food on them act as a moths magnet.
Step 7: Clothes can be stored in containers.
You can keep the moths from laying new eggs by keeping clothes that you don't wear frequently in containers.Storage boxes, vacuum-sealed bags, and plastic storage bags are easy to use.Pack up the seals with packing tape.
Step 8: Look for signs of an insect problem.
Look for tiny worms that look like they are wiggling rice in food containers or the pantry. You should be aware of cast off skins. You should check the corners and the dark areas of the pantry. The worms have a black or brown head.
Step 9: Check the food to make sure it is free of pests.
There are worms in your home. The moths worms quickly spread to other foods after you bring home an item with them. You should check your pantry for signs of pests. You may notice some things. The meal moths prefer cereals, flour, grains, birdseed, dried fruit, candy, pet food and nuts.Even if you don't see any worms, it's still an issue.
Step 10: Remove the items from the bag.
If you put the food in bags you can prevent the worms from spreading. The items should be thrown away as soon as possible. It is possible that you did not properly close all of the seals.
Step 11: Take your remaining food and put it in a container.
Most of your food will have to be thrown away.Grains or cereals should be thrown away.If you have food in a container that you can't wash, then you need to throw it out as well.
Step 12: You should wash everything you plan to bring to the pantry.
The moths lay their eggs in the crevices of items, so you may still have active eggs on your items. To wash these items, use warm, soapy water. There are crevices on items wrapped in plastic. You can kill the pests by putting the food in the freezer, microwaving it for 5 minutes, or baking it at a higher temperature.
Step 13: The shelf liners need to be replaced.
If you have shelf liners, you need to throw them away as they can harbor eggs.If you want to put in new pantry liners, you should wait until your problem is over.If the worms come back, you may have to replace them again.
Step 14: It's a good idea to vacuum out your cabinets.
You can use a hose extension on your vacuum cleaner. If possible, vacuum in the crevices and corners because tiny worms and eggs tend to hide there.
Step 15: The pantry shelves and walls need to be cleaned.
To clean the pantry walls and ceilings, use a soapy rag.Follow with a solution of bleach. You can either make your own or buy a product that contains bleach. After that, wipe the shelves with plain white vinegar.Add 1 part bleach to 9 parts water to mix your own solution.Don't forget to clean the corners.
Step 16: Food containers need to be cleaned out.
If you have a hot dishwasher, run the containers in it.If not, wash them out with hot soapy water. If you want to finish, apply a vinegar rinse. It's important to follow these extra precautions because a single worm could re-inspire the entire area.
Step 17: Use containers that are sealed.
If you store your food in containers, it will be less likely to be contaminated. If you buy grains, flours, or meals, you may want to store them in the freezer for a week to kill off any eggs that may already exist on the product. You can keep items cold until you use them.
Step 18: Use strips or anti-moth paper.
Anti-moth paper or paper strips can be placed in your wardrobe, drawers, boxes, garment bags, and pantry. The paper will kill the insects.
Step 19: cedar balls can be placed anywhere you store clothing.
Cedar balls can be used as a natural replacement for pesticides. The oil in cedar doesn't have much of an effect on larger worms or adult moths. It won't solve all of your problems, but hanging a cedar ball in your closet or drawer can help. You can also use wood.
Step 20: Use mothballs.
To be effective and safe, you should only use your mothballs when you are storing your clothes in a container.Put the mothsballs in with the clothing. There are chemicals in balls that can build up and kill moths in all stages of their life cycle. They can be toxic if handled with gloves.
Step 21: Bay leaves can be added to kitchen cabinets.
You may keep bay leaves in your kitchen.Put a few bay leaves in your cabinets and pantry.
Step 22: You can make your own herb packs.
The smell of lavender, peppermint, cloves, thyme, and Rosemary can be avoided by moths.Add dried herbs to your closets, drawers, and storage areas by placing them in a bag.The scent of herbs will kill bugs. One herb or a combination of herbs can be used.
