Some wool items are so delicate that just washing them in the wrong temperature water can make them bunch up and shrink. It isn't completely ruined if your wool has felted. It is possible to stretch out your item to make it bigger, but it may never return to the shape it once was.
Step 1: The sink or bucket needs to be filled with water.
You can use a bathtub to fix a large wool item.As hot water can make wool shrink, keep your water around 90 F.The bucket, sink, and tub should be clean.
Step 2: The hair conditioner needs to be added to the water.
If you use a conditioner without sulfates, it will be less drying. The conditioner will make the wool elastic and stretchy.Put the conditioner into the water with your fingers.
Step 3: Place your wool in the water and gently knead it.
Make sure the entire wool item is completely immersed in water, then rub the wool with your fingers to loosen the fibers. It is fragile so don't wring or stretch it yet.It should take 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 4: For 30 to 60 minutes, soak the wool.
The wool won't need to be soaked for very long if it's only slightly felted. It will need to be soaked for about an hour if it is almost entirely felted. If you leave it in longer, try to give it at least 30 minutes. The longer the wool soaks, the easier it will be to stretch it out.
Step 5: The wool should be squeezed gently to get rid of water.
Press the wool item in between your hands. You could cause it to shrink more if you try to wring it out.It is possible to drain the water from your sink or bathtub.
Step 6: Place the item on a towel.
A clean towel can be put down on a flat surface. The wool should be spread out as flat as possible. If you don't want your wool to get too curly, you can use a bath mat.
Step 7: The wool item needs to be pulled back into its original shape.
Hold the center of the wool steady with one hand and use the other to grab the edges.Go slowly so you don't tear or rip the item, and work in small, short bursts around the entire thing. It can be difficult to do this on your own, so you may need a friend to help.
Step 8: The wool should be dry on a flat surface.
Leave your wool on the floor or towel until it is dry.You won't be able to stretch your wool anymore once it's dry, so make sure you do all you can
Step 9: Put your item in water and squeeze it out.
To remove the conditioner or fiber product from your wool, take it to the sink and run it under the water. If you put a film on top of it, it will make your wool feel soft.To get the excess water out, gently squeeze your wool item. You can try to stretch out your wool by rinsing it out.
Step 10: To dry the wool item, spread it out.
If you want to stretch your wool out, make sure it is laying really flat. You can either put it away or leave it to dry.You should store your wool in a dry place.
