Do you know what a gable end is in kitchen cabinets?
We were recently asked, "What is downturn and a gable end?"Are they the same things when it comes to kitchens?
Both gables and downturns cover the end of a non matching carcase so that the colour and texture is carried on.There are more details and examples in the sections below.
A downturn is a piece of work that is cut and placed at the end of the kitchen run to give it a modern look.
The downturn can be made from any worktop material. The worktop needs to be on both sides so that there are no exposed edges.
The left and right sides of the carcase run past the 8m back panel of our kitchen units.
To get a matching look with the doors, you need to order either a matt finish door style with one of our colour matched carcases or end panels if you want to complete a gloss look.
We prefer to give people the option of a carcase finish or separate matching end panels for units that have a built in gable on the exposed side.
End panels perform the same job as gables by hiding the side of the carcase.
