It's possible to cut a sheet cake any way you want. It's not the same as getting perfectly sized sheet cakes slices. It takes a bit of preparation to cut a sheet cake into pieces. You need to know how many people you want to serve. You can make a guide on top of the cake to help you cut it.Take your knife, slice, and serve. You can use dental floss to get even cleaner cuts.
Step 1: Determine the size of the cake.
sheet cakes and sheet cake pans can come in half and quarter sizes. The cake size can be determined by looking at the packaging of your cake pan. This will let you know how much you can get.
Step 2: You can choose the serving size based on the number of people in attendance.
There are a few different sizes of sheet cakes.Typically, a sheet cake slice is either 1 in 2 in ( 2.5 cm ) or 2in ( 5.1 cm) depending on the size of the slice.Cut your cake according to the number of guests you want to serve. The bigger the slices, the less serving you will get.A quarter sheet cake can be used for 24 or 18 servings.A half sheet cake can hold up to 106, 54, or 36 serving.A full sheet cake can hold up to 192, 96, or 64 serving.
Step 3: The cake needs to be moved to a no-slip surface.
If you want your cake to not slip when you cut it, move it onto a surface with good traction.Don't put your cake on the table or counter tops.Place a cutting board mat or long dish towel on top of your cake to keep it stable.Do not remove the cake board if it was decorated with your cake.Move the cake and board together. If your cake did not come with a cake board, move it to a larger cutting board or cake stand before serving.Do not put your cake on your mat.
Step 4: Before cutting your cake, score it and create guides.
Use a spatula or butter knife to score your cake before you cut it.If you want to press the dull side of your knife or spatula into the top of the cake, you have to lay a ruler along the long side.Move your ruler to the width side of the cake, and make marks in 1 in, 2 in or 3 in intervals depending on the serving size you chose. It isn't necessary to score. It's helpful to make sure you get slices before you cut.You may not get an even cut if you don't score.Don't press down too hard.To give you a guide when you cut, you want to make a small indent in the top of your cake or frosting. If you want to save time in the kitchen preparing your cake, scoring can be done in advance.
Step 5: A long, thin knife is what you should choose.
You will need a longer knife to get through the sheet cake. There is a knife with a long blade. The frosting could become messy if you use knives with serrated edges.
Step 6: Between each cut, wipe your knife down.
Between the cuts, wipe your knife down with a dish towel or paper towel. If your cake has frosting, this is helpful.
Step 7: Along your scoring line, slice vertically.
The blade should be lined up along one of the scoring lines. The cake board or cutting board should be hit by the knife.Slowly drag your knife down the cake.Don't bring your knife back up until you have dragged it out of the cake.Along the rest of your scores, repeat this process. If your knife is long enough to reach across the entire cake, lay the blade down along the length of the cake before dragging it out.If you want your knife to hit the board, start at the top edge of the cake and press your blade down at a 45 degree angle.Take your knife and drag it down the cake.
Step 8: Individual slices should be cut from the horizontal scores.
Use your horizontal scores to cut individual cake slices after making your first vertical cut.Working from the outer edge of your cake, press your knife down at a 45 degree angle until the tip hits the board.Pull your knife towards you until it comes out of the cake.
Step 9: You can serve the cake.
Pull the slice away from the rest of the cake by putting the flat of your blade under it.Go ahead and serve your slice on the plate. If your slice is stubborn, use a fork to move the cake onto the plate.
Step 10: Use floss that doesn't have flavor.
Your cake slices could be affected by the flavor of floss. There is an unflavored variety of dental floss.Fishing wire works well if you don't have floss.
Step 11: Floss is about 10 cm longer than your cake.
You want your floss to be a little bit longer than your cake so that you have enough to wrap it around your fingers.floss is about 10 cm longer than your cake. The floss will be wrapped around your fingers on either side.
Step 12: The floss should be wrapped around your fingers.
Wrap the floss around your fingers.Pull the floss straight after twisting it over each finger.
Step 13: The floss should be spread evenly over your cake.
Line your floss up with your first scoring line and press it down until it reaches the board. You need to unwrap floss from one finger.Pull the finger away from the cake until the floss is free. For each of your scoring lines, repeat this process.
Step 14: Floss can be changed between cuts.
Change the length of floss between the scoring lines. This keeps your cake clean.
