You can hang up windsocks on your porch. You can run around with them and make the streamers ripple in the wind by holding them by the handle. They are a perfect craft project for children of all ages.
Step 1: Use markers, crayons, paint, or stickers to decorate a sheet of paper.
You can get a sheet of construction paper. You can decorate it to your heart's content by setting it down on a flat surface. It's a good idea to let the paint dry.A simple design can be made with spots or stripes. You can draw hearts, stars, or fish. The windsock can be decorated to look like an animal.
Step 2: Glue, tape, or staple it shut as you roll the paper widthwise.
To form a tube, bring the narrow ends of the paper together.Overlap them by 1 inch.Attach the tube with something. The side that you decorated should be on the outside of the tube.Liquid school glue can be used.If you use liquid school glue, use clothespins or paper clips to hold the paper together.
Step 3: Cut crepe paper into streamers.
Each streamer should be about 38 cm long. You can either cut it narrower or leave it as-is.If you are using tissue paper, you should cut it into strips of about 2.5 to 5.1 cm in length.Attach the inside edge of your windsock with strips of glue.Use 5 to 10 strips. The streamers can be any color. For a rainbow windsock, make each one a different color.
Step 4: Glue the streams to the windsock.
Place the end of your streamer into the windsock.Move the streamer onto the next streamer by taping or glueing it down.Continue until you cover the inside edge with streamers.A glue stick or liquid school glue is the best for this, but you can use a stapler if you don't have anything else.
Step 5: There are 2 holes in the top of the windsock.
The streamers are facing away from you if you turn the windsock. To make 2 holes in the windsock, use a hole puncher. The holes should be across from each other.
Step 6: Attach a piece of string through the two holes.
Cut a piece of string that is at least 3 to 4 times the width of your windsock.Feed the end through both holes.Tie the ends of the string together. The knot should be inside the windsock. You can use any type of string you want, as long as it is thin enough to fit through the holes.Feed the end of the pipe cleaner through the hole and bend the ends to hold it in place.
Step 7: The windsock should be hung from a hook.
If you want to see it in action, hang it outside or in front of a fan.Don't leave it outside when it is raining or snowing. You should bring it indoors at night if it is going to be damaged.
Step 8: A ring is cut from a bottle.
You can find a plastic bottle.Use a pair of scissors or a craft blade to cut the bottle in half.Next, cut a ring from one of the bottle halves. You should keep the ring and recycle the rest.Kids will need help with this step.Use soap and warm water to wash the ring if the bottle was dirty. You can dry it off with a towel.
Step 9: There are 2 holes in the ring.
To make the holes, use a hole puncher or awl.The holes should be across from each other or the windsock won't hang evenly.
Step 10: Attach a piece of string through the holes.
A piece of string is 3 to 4 times the length of your ring.To make a handle, thread it through both holes.
Step 11: Cut the strips from the bag.
There is a bag on the table. To draw wide stripes across the bag, use a marker and a ruler.Use a pair of scissors to cut these lines. You have to cut through both layers of plastic. How many strips you cut depends on what you want your windsock to look like. There will be about 5 to 7 strips. To make a rainbow windsock, use different colors of plastic bags.Party streamers, ribbon, or even cellophane can be used.
Step 12: Use slipknots to tie the strips to the ring.
The plastic strip should be folded in half.Place the folded end in the ring so that it sticks out from the bottom.Pull the strip down through the loop by wrapping the tail ends over the top edge.To tighten the knot, tug on the tails.Until the plastic ring is covered, do this for all of the strips.Depending on the size of the bottle, you may need to cut more strips of plastic.
Step 13: The windsock needs to be hung from a hook.
Outside on a windy day would be the best place to hang it.You can hang it in front of a fan if there is no wind. You don't have to worry about the windsock getting wet or damp because it's made from plastic.
