Can I run my Mercury outboard without a thermostat?
If you don't have a thermostat, it will cause your motor to make oil and cause the engine to sweat.Your warm up will be longer because of how your auto choke works. It will be more difficult to tune the engines to run the same.
Does a boat motor need a thermostat? The Thermostat. The thermostat is one of the least appreciated parts of an outboard motor.A thermostat regulates the temperature of the water for engine cooling and keeps pressure in the cooling system to facilitate heat transfer from the heads and the cylinder walls.
The car will run fine without it.The water cooling system has a thermostat on it.Some cars have a thermal operating valve that opens and closes depending on the engine temperature.A fan is fired on the car's radiators.
It is possible to temporarily run your outboard without the thermostat. It's not possible to remove the thermostat and still run the engine for long periods of time. The thermostat is so important because of this breakdown.
