Boa Closure System: tips and tricks, and how to fix a broken boa system.
You need to identify exactly which system your boots use and the length of the cable or lace needed to fix your broken boa system.You need to order the correct repair kit for your snowboard boots.
Some systems will need to be handled differently because the process of fixing them is essentially the same.The most used systems on snowboard boots are either the H3 System or the M3 system.Refer to the photos below to identify the system you are working with.
H3 using lace.
If you don't know which system is used on your boots, you should check the tongue for the correct cable or lace length.Refer to the chart below for recommended lengths if the tag has worn off or you are not sure where to look.
The correct repair kit will allow us to disassemble, replace the broken cable or lace, and then reassemble.
If you want to remove the reel from the H3 Systems, you need to pull out the dial, release the tension in the cable or lace, and find a small window with a screwdriver or small flat object.
Remove the dial from the T6 tool included in the repair kit.
Remove all cable or lace from the spool for H3 systems.
For both systems, start at the toe, feed cable or lace through all eye stays and tongue guides and insert both ends into reel housing.
If you want to use H3 Systems, you need to pull the cable through the marked hole, then insert it into the hole you just pulled through, and then turn it back on.Keep the locked loop in place by pulling cable tight.For the other side, repeat.
If you want to use M3 Systems, you need to insert the cable into the marked hole and pull through the other side, circle back through and then re-enter the hole it was just pulled through.Keep the locked loop in place by pulling cable tight.For the other side, repeat.
If you want to use lace for H3 Systems, you have to pull it through the smaller end of the hole and tie a knot large enough to keep the lace from being pulled back through.For the other side, repeat.
Pull excess cable or lace to the seat reel in the housing and push the dial in to tighten it.
Pull excess cable or lace to install into housing, replace dial and tighten down by turning the T6 tool clockwise, and push dial in to tighten extra cable.
