You have wrapped your gift and are ready to go.All it needs is a bow.Going the extra mile and tying a ribbon around the box will give you a nicer touch. If you know how to knot a bow around a box, you can try out more unique looks, such as the diagonal or woven look.
Step 1: The top of the box should be draped with the ribbon.
The tail of the bow can be left hanging off the side.Don't cut the ribbon yet.It is better to leave more ribbon on the side. You can shorten it later.
Step 2: The rest of the ribbon needs to be pulled under the box.
You may lose your place if you flip the box over.Lift the box up and put the rest of the ribbon behind it.Once the ribbon comes out the other side, set the box back down.
Step 3: Go across the front of the box.
Bring the ribbon towards the middle of the box.If you twist the ribbons around, they will be vertically oriented. If you see the wrong side of the ribbon, you may have to twist it twice.
Step 4: Wrap the back of the box with ribbon.
The box needs to be lifted up again. The longer part of the ribbon is behind the box.The box should be set down again.Place your thumb against the twisted part to keep it secure as you wrap the ribbon around the back.
Step 5: Measure against the first piece and cut it.
Return your ribbon to the middle of the box. From the beginning, measure it against the end of the ribbon.
Step 6: Put the ribbon under the twisted part.
At an angle, pull the ribbon across the twisted part.Back out the way you started if you bring it under the twisted part.To tighten the knot, pull on both ends of the ribbon.
Step 7: Put the ribbon into the bow.
The ribbon should be folded into loops. To make a smaller loop in the middle, cross the left loop over the right one.Pull the left loop through the smaller one.
Step 8: Attach the bow, then trim off the ribbon.
Take a second to adjust the loops and tails. You can fluff the loops if you use a wired ribbon.Cut the ends of the tails into angles.
Step 9: There is a left corner of the box.
You can leave up to 8 inches on the left side of the corner. The rest of the ribbon should be on the top edge.
Step 10: There is a ribbon behind the right corner.
Pull the ribbon down towards the bottom right corner. The ribbon should not fall off if you keep your thumb on the top left corner.
Step 11: Under the bottom left corner, wrap the ribbon.
The wraps should be snug so that they don't slide off the corners.
Step 12: Return the ribbon to the left corner.
It would be a good idea to adjust the positions of the wrapped ribbons on the corners at this point.Pull them further from the corners if they appear to be slipping off.
Step 13: The ribbon should be cut off.
The center of the top left corner is where the ribbons should be.Take the spool ribbon against the other and cut it to match.
Step 14: Tie the ribbons.
Pull on both ends of the ribbon to tighten it.Just like tying a shoe, cross the right ribbon over the left one.
Step 15: Cut off the excess ribbon.
Remove the excess ribbon from the tails once the bow is tight. They can be cut at angles or into a notch.
Step 16: The length of the box should be cut in four pieces of ribbon.
You will need four pieces of ribbon that are long enough to wrap around the box and an additional 2 inches. For a unique look, consider using two pieces of thin ribbon. You can use two contrasting colors.A wired ribbon is not a good choice.Thin ribbon for best results.
Step 17: Four pieces of ribbon should be cut for the box.
In the previous step, use the same ribbon. This time, cut the ribbon long enough so that it can wrap around the box.
Step 18: The first set of ribbons should be placed on the table.
Set the ribbons on the table.Make sure that they are not more than 14 inch apart. If you used different colors, be sure to alternate them.
Step 19: Wrap the box around the ribbons.
Put your gift on the ribbons.Depending on where you want the ribbons to be, the box can be centered or off-center.
Step 20: Wrap the ribbons around the box with double-sided tape.
Do not tape all of the ribbons at the same time.Pull the ribbons tightly around the box.The ribbon ends will overlap by about 1 inch.Make sure you only tape the top ribbon to the bottom ribbon, not the box itself.Glue dots can be found in the scrapbooking aisle of an arts and crafts store.
Step 21: Right above the first set, secure the next set.
Place a strip of double-sided tape on the end of your ribbon.Make sure the ends of the ribbon are in line with the first one.The ribbons should not be more than 14 inch apart.
Step 22: The first set of ribbons should be woven through the box after it flips over.
The front of the box has short ribbons on it.The first set of ribbons should be interlaced over and under. You can weave the next ribbon under and over.Continue weaving until you have woven all four ribbons.
Step 23: Attach the ribbons to the back of the box
The box should be flipped over again.Press the ribbons down one by one to the back of the box after securing a strip of double-sided tape. The ends of the ribbons need to match up.Just like you did for the front, weave the short ribbons through the long ribbons on the back.
Step 24: If you want, add a decoration to the front
There are woven ribbons in the design. If you feel that your gift is missing something, you can buy a matching bow and put it in the box.If you want to keep the weaving visible, set the bow off to the side.
